Hey There Everyone! A couple of weeks ago, I made a post about why you should be watching Dynasty and I naturally had to also make a post about my other TV/Netflix obsession - Riverdale. The show is currently seven episodes into the second season, so there is a bit of catching up needed if you haven't started the show yet, but it's honestly worth it. The show is perfect for binge-watching, and with the show taking a Christmas/New Years break soon, now's the perfect time to get all caught up with the drama of Riverdale. Here's seven reasons why you should be watching the show! For those who don't know, Riverdale is based off of the Archie comics, throwing the characters into a world of murder and mystery. I've never actually read any of the Archie comics, but I do a little bit about them. The great thing is, you don't need to have any knowledge of the original comics to enjoy this show! 1. Cheryl Blossom is queen Love her or hate her, Cheryl Blossom is queen. Even with everything she's been through, she doesn't let shit drag her down, she isn't afraid to say what she's thinking, and she's honestly a little bit psychotic. Cheryl steals every scene she's in and has some of the best one-liners of the series. Her character is only getting better and better and Madeleine Petsche has done a fantastic job bringing this crazy redhead to life. Don't mess with Cheryl Blossom because she will get even, and you don't want to be on the receiving end of her revenge! 2. Bughead is cute af Betty and Jughead are definitely most people's OTP. Yes, there's a lot of Barchie shippers out there, but Bughead is where it's at. They had such a cute build-up to their relationship, and their scenes are always fun and cute. They've certainly had some road bumps, and I'm sure there will be more for them to face, but they've shown that they will overcome anything that the town of Riverdale throws at them! You can't help but ship them, even if you do wish Barchie had stood a chance. Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse are fantastic in these roles, and together they work so well. 3. The parents are just as awesome as the teens While the teens are running around trying to solve our murder mysteries, there's a whole lot of drama going on with the parents. The Coopers have marital problems and are slightly nuts. The Blossoms are just insane. The Lodges are dodgy af. FP Jones is a member of the Southside Serpents. Sheriff Keller is only getting more intriguing. Mayor McCoy doesn't take shit from anyone. And Fred Andrews seems to be the only 'normal' parent in town. Their stories are just as interesting as their kids, and it adds a really great element to the teen drama of the show. 4. Murder mysteries galore Season 1 was all about the death of Jason Blossom and who could have murdered him. After thirteen episodes, we finally found out the truth, although I'm sure there's still more to that story. Season 1 ended with Archie's dad shot by a masked killer, known as the Black Hood, who has now been wreaking havoc on Riverdale this season. Ridding the town of all its sinners, we are yet to know who is under the hood - but we will find out in a few episodes time! There's a number of suspects and a whole bunch of theories (Hal Cooper, Clifford Blossom, Tall Boy, Chic Cooper, Sheriff Keller... the list goes on!), and his identity reveal is only going to lead to more drama in the second half of season 2. 5. Northside vs. Southside Serpents You'd think a murder mystery and a crazy masked killer would be enough for Riverdale, but there's also the divide between North and South. The further along we get in the series, the more we see of the Southside Serpents, and they are actually really intriguing. Some of them have really weird names - like who the hell would want to be known as Sweet Pea? - and their initiation ceremony is batshit insane. Throw in Mayor McCoy and a number of Northsiders trying to bring down the Serpents, and you've got some really great drama. Plus, the South also has The Ghoulies and their Jingle Jangle, who add another layer of drama and mayhem to the town of Riverdale. It's a wonder anyone wants to live in the town with everything that's going on! 6. Everyone has a secret - and everyone's a suspect There's so many secrets floating around Riverdale - everyone has something to hide and every secret threatens to ruin relationships. Some secrets have been let out, others have only been revealed to the audience and all of them have provided interesting plot twists in our story. The town of Riverdale thrives on secrets, and there's just going to be more revealed as the series goes on. And with all these secrets being concealed, it just means that everyone looks like a suspect! 7. The cast is fantastic It's hard to imagine any other actors playing these characters - they all fit together so well! One thing that I really love is how great the casting is between parents and children - they definitely look like they could be related, so A+ to the casting directors for who they chose for all the roles. From the behind-the-scenes videos and cast interviews, you can really tell that the cast is close and are friends IRL, which really shows onscreen in the show. There's characters you love and characters you hate, and every actor has brought their character to life brilliantly. I could probably go on and list many more reasons as to why this show is great and why you should watch it - just trust me when I say it's a show that you need to see if you haven't already! Since Pretty Little Liars ended, I've had a hole in my life when it comes to teen drama and mystery. Riverdale has definitely filled that hole and I love tuning in every week to see what the hell is going on in Riverdale. If you're looking for a great teen drama and mystery, this is a show you need to watch. American viewers can watch it on The CW, while international fans can find the show on Netflix every week!
I've actually been uploading episode talk videos on my channel every week (also for Dynasty as well), so definitely check them out below if you want to know more about my thoughts about each episode so far, and some of my theories. This show just keeps getting better and better every week, and is one you should jump on board with now and catch up with. See You Soon! Victoria :) |
