Hey There Everyone!
There's just one week left until Christmas! Are you ready for the big day? Bought all your presents? Finished decorating the house? I somehow managed to get my Christmas shopping done early for a change, so I've been able to spend December really getting into the festive spirit, decorating the house, listening to Christmas Carols and watching holiday films. Today, I'm sharing with you some of my favourite decorations that I've put up this year!
Now, earlier in the month, I uploaded a vlog of decorating the house, which is always so much fun! As I've gotten older, decorating the house for Christmas has become my thing, much to the relief of my mum as she doesn't have to find time to put up the decorations - they are just up when she gets home! I put my Christmas playlist on shuffle and got busy making the house all festive.
It doesn't officially feel like Christmas until the tree and decorations are up, so I try and put them up at the start of December - if I had it my way, the tree would be up in the middle of the November, but mum ensures it's up no earlier than December 1st. But I do think around the start of the month is the best time to put up the decorations so you can officially get into the festive spirit for the month!
I know a lot of people have real Christmas trees, and I'd honestly love to have one at least once in my life, but we have a fake tree for Christmas. I feel like Australians don't really use real trees, particularly because they aren't as readily or widely available as are they are overseas. But I do love a fake tree - it doesn't drop it's needles and you can use it year after year. My only complaint is that the texture is horrible when it comes to pulling all the branches out after being squashed in a box all year.
The decorations we put on the tree are very mismatched. While I love seeing people's trees with a particular colour scheme and baubles of all different sizes, I love the randomness that is our tree. There isn't a theme and some of the decorations have been going up on the tree for as long as I can remember. There's baubles, Santa Claus', reindeer, snowmen and angels. It may look like a mess to some, but to me, it screams Christmas.
Topping off the tree is a string of coloured lights that make the tree look super festive at night. While I love seeing white lights on trees and think it looks great, I can never pass up having coloured lights on the tree. I especially love having most of the house in darkness, the only lights being the tree, and those strung up on the outside of our house. Even in almost complete darkness, it feels super cozy.
The bulk of our decorations are contained to the lounge room, with a few decorations filtering into the various other rooms of our house. And although I've packed a lot of decorations into the gaps around the lounge room, it doesn't look cluttered or scream Christmas obsession (which I feel it kinda should, tbh) - just enough to add to the festive feel. The decorations are mainly cute little Christmas trinkets - Santa's, reindeer, snowmen, and nativity scenes - that have been collected over the years. Like the tree decorations, they are a bit mismatch, but they are perfect.
Spending the day decorating the house and jamming out to my Christmas playlist is always one of my favourite days of the year. It's great to see the house go from boring to festive in just a few hours and have your Christmas spirit instantly lifted with the finished product. It really doesn't feel like December or the festive season until at least the Christmas tree is up.
Definitely check out my decorations vlog if you want to see more of how our house is decorated, as well as a look at our outside lights. This is by far one of my favourite times of the year and although the Christmas tree and decorations are only a small part of why I love it so much, it's definitely not Christmas until there's some lights, or tinsel, or a Santa Claus somewhere in your house.
I hope you are all having a wonderful festive season, however you choose to spend the holidays, and I'll be back next Monday - yes, Christmas day - with possibly my favourite blog post of the year - a look at how me and my family have celebrated Christmas over the years, including some cute (and minorly cringey) photos from my past.
Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe & Happy 2018!
