Hey There Everyone!
You know what I love about blogging? That you can be totally lost about what you want to write about next, then suddenly have an idea fly out of nowhere. That's what happened with this week's post, and the moment it came to me, I could just picture it coming together. Anyway, enough rambling. I LOVE eye shadow - it's probably my favourite step in my makeup routine, and my palettes are some of my favourite products in my makeup collection. So here are five of my favourites that I definitely recommend you checking out!
Okay, so at a glance, a lot of my palettes are very similar. That's because I mainly stick to browns, golds and natural shades, rather than bright colours. As a teen, colour was my thing and I used to love playing around with different colours and shades, but I've turned to more natural palattes - ones that can create both nice everyday looks and more dramatic going out looks. In saying that, I do really want to get back into using bright colours.
Probably my absolute favourite palette is the ColourPop Yes, Please! palette. ColourPop's eyeshadow formulation is amazing - it's really pigmented and blends so beautifully. And it's not just the shadows themselves - the actual palette is really sleek and beautiful. The only thing missing is a mirror inside, although I don't always use the mirror that comes in a palette. Of the twelve shades, four a shimmer while the rest are matte.
My go-to look with this palette uses the two brown shades on the bottom row and the gold, which I'm sure you can see has a fair dent in it. But overall, I love playing around with every shade. From an everyday look to something more a little more dramatic, I absolutely love using this palette. If you've never used a ColourPop eye shadow palette, you are seriously missing out on some amazingly pigmented eye shadow!
My go-to everyday palette is definitely the Maybelline Nudes palette, the original from the Nudes range. Maybelline has some really great eyeshadows that a super affordable and really great quality. I love using the palette to just add a bit of colour to my eyes for a basic makeup look. Of the twelve shades, seven are shimmers while the other five are matte, although some shimmers are less intense than others.
Just like the ColourPop palette, you can see that I love using the gold shade from this palette also - if a palette has gold in it, chances are I'm going to want it! I play around with the different shades a little more with this palette, kind of using most shades in some way in a look. So great for a nice everyday look, but also works really well for something a little more bold, although I tend to use other palettes for bolder looks.
Similarly, an affordable palette that has great colour pay-off is the DB Cosmetics Paparazzi palette. I've always been a big fan of DB Cosmetics, so when they released this palette, I couldn't not get it - it's exactly the type of palette that I love! Of the eighteen shades, eight are shimmer while ten are matte, again with different intensities of shimmer.
This palette is a good blend of the Yes, Please! palette and The Nudes palette above, so it's a great way to great slightly different looks and play around with slightly different shades. Plus, with the metal tin and mirror inside, it's such a great palette for travel that won't break the bank.
Continuing my obsession with brown palettes with some shimmer shades is Kylie Cosmetic's The Bronze Palette. I'm pretty sure most of these shades, apart from the shimmers, appear in the palettes I've talked about above, but that's hardly going to stop me from also having this in my collection. Of the nine shades, two are shimmers.
Now, if I'm being completely honest, I'm not 100% sure this is actually a legitimate Kylie palette. I purchased it at a market from a couple who sell a number of different makeup brands, on the high-end side of things, for a more affordable price. Obviously, I wasn't going to not get this palette when it was so cheap. I'm not saying these people are selling knock-off products, but I did also purchase a Kylie lipstick, and it's definitely a poor dupe. Even if this isn't an actual Kyshadow palette, it's such a great palette with amazing colour pay-off.
Finally, to add a bit of colour to this otherwise brown blog post! You know how I said earlier in the post that I don't really use colour much? Well that doesn't stop the Coastal Scents 120 Palette One from being one of my favourites anyway. Of the 120 shades, 54 are shimmer, although not as intense as the shimmers in the above palettes.
Sure, I don't use it too often, but I do still really love the palette. It honestly has all the colours I could ever want and it was the first major eyeshadow palette that I purchased. I've loved playing around with the colours and different combinations, and I've enjoyed the looks I've created. This is definitely a great palette to get if you're just getting into using makeup because you can do so much with.
I highly recommend each and every one of these palettes - they are perfect for someone who's never used makeup before or for professional makeup artists. If, like me, you are obsessed with nudes and browns, then these are definitely must-try palettes.
Now I want to know - what are some of you favourite palettes? I'd love to know what you guys love to use and which palettes you recommend others try out. And if you love a palette that is similar to the ones I've talked about, let me know because I can never have too many palettes that are so similar!
