Happy Holidays Everyone!
It's that time of year again, so I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite Christmas movies! Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I love to spend the month of December watching a bunch of Christmas movies to get me into the Christmas spirit. There's nothing quiet like get comfy on the couch and watching a nice Christmas film.
It isn't Christmas without listening to Christmas Carols and watching a Christmas film. I love curling up on the couch, getting out the popcorn and watching a Christmas movie or two. I've got so many that I watch, or try to watch, every year, that it was hard to narrow it down my top seven, but I've manged to do that for you guys.
The Santa Clause
Nothing says Christmas quiet like The Santa Clause 1, 2 and 3! Watching Tim Allen trying to navigate becoming Santa and then trying to stay Santa is hilarious and a great way to get into the Christmas spirit. Of course, the most magical is the first film, but two and three are also great, especially because you get to see Eric Lloyd grow up - he went from being a really cute kid to a pretty good looking teen.
Home Alone (and Home Alone 2, we don't talk about 3 or 4) is one of the few Christmas films that I'll watch anytime of the year. It's probably one of the first Christmas films that I ever remember watching, and is one that I'll watch every year without fail. It's just such a fun Christmas film and watching Kevin McAllister setting booby traps for two burglars never gets old. Plus, Macaulay Culkin was such a cute kid.
The most recent film to feature on this list, I feel like this is sometimes an overlooked Christmas movie. I love the message that this film promotes, in that everyone deserves to have a happy Christmas and that no one should be left behind. The other thing I love about this film is the stars behind the voices - they are some fantastic British actors that fit so perfectly with their characters. The animation is so fun and the film is just so magical - definitely watch this if you haven't already!
I love A Christmas Carol and the adaptations that it has produced. One of them is Scrooged, which I only saw for the first time a few years ago. I really like how they adapted it, making it a little meta with the characters actually producing A Christmas Carol retelling. Bill Murray was so funny as Scrooge and the way the Ghosts of Christmas were portrayed was amazing. Plus, it oozes late-80s awesomeness.
A Christmas Carol
As I just said, I love A Christmas Carol adaptations, and this Disney version is absolutely fantastic. The animation alone is beautiful and magical, and it feels so authentic to the original tale by Charles Dickens. When I actually read the novella last year, it was this film that I could so vividly picture. Jim Carrey voices an excellent Scrooge, as well as voices all three Ghosts of Christmas. It's such a perfect adaption and a must-watch at Christmas time.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Another Jim Carrey Christmas film, and honestly one of the best Christmas films ever made. Dr. Seuss wrote a fantastic story and this adaption brings it to life and adds so much more to the story. While I really like the 1966 animated version which just reads the story, the world of the Who's really came to life in this movie. I love seeing how Whoville was created and just any scene to do with the Grinch - Jim Carrey is amazing when it comes to physical comedy. Plus, I love the soundtrack for this movie
[I'm worried about the fact that it's going to be adapted again next year starring Benedict Cumberbatch - this adaptation was perfect and you can't improve on perfection!]
Finally, one of my must-watch films, and one that I'll honestly watch any time of the year, Love Actually is a fantastic Christmas film. What I love most is how all the characters are somehow connected, and I loved seeing their relationships and connections unfold when I first saw the movie. And it's got such a stellar British cast, so it's hard not to love it. It's got an amazing message and the perfect Christmas feel to it.
With Christmas being my favourite time of the year, Christmas films are definitely some of my favourite films to watch. As I said, I try to watch as many as possible during the month of December, at least one per day up until Christmas Eve. That's my plan for this year, and I hope by the time this blog post actually goes live, that I've already watched at least five movies. I recommend following me on Twitter, because I'm sure I'll be tweeting about all the films that I'm watching during the month of December.
Let me know some of your favourite holiday movies, and what you'll be watching this holiday season! I hope that this list of favourites has given you something new to check out, or something to revisit this year.
