AUTHOR: Sara Shepard GENRE: YA Mystery PAGES: 298 RELEASED: 1 September 2007 SERIES: Pretty Little Liars #3 SYNOPSIS: In Rosewood, Pennsylvania, four perfect-looking girls aren't nearly as perfect as they seem. Aria can't resist her forbidden ex. Hanna is on the verge of losing her BFF. Emily is freaking out over a simple kiss. And Spencer can't keep her hands off anything that belongs to her sister. Lucky me. I know these pretty little liars better than they know themselves. But it's hard keeping all of their secrets to myself. They better do as I say... or else! - A Another Pretty Little Liars book down! I am seriously flying through this series, which is good considering it is so long, so hopefully I'll have finished it by the end of the year, if I continue on at this rate. Again, I really enjoyed this segment on the story and I'm super excited to see whats next.
Picking up a month after Ali's memorial, and three weeks after Toby's body was found, the book sees the lives of all four liars begin to fall apart. Mona and Hanna's relationship is on thin ice and every secret Hanna keeps from her BFF pushes them further and further apart. Emily and Maya continue to secretly see each other, but when A lets it slip to the world Emily's secret, her parents begin threatening to ship her off to Iowa if she doesn't go back to being straight. Spencer's plagiarized essay is nominated for a Golden Orchid, but she's more worried about the blackspots in her memories concerning Ali's disappearance. And Aria is kicked out of home, forced to live with Sean until A gets involved again and she ends up homeless. Classic A continually gets in the way, but when someone figures out who A could be, they may not be around long enough to tell the Liars. This part of the story was really great, and focused more on showing the relationships between the Liars and Ali before she disappeared. It was great to see the flashbacks again, especially the few flashbacks that continued to be built on to form a better look at the girls during 7th grade. The story continued to pull me in, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Sara really knows how to write cliffhangers, both for her character chapters, and for the overall book. She writes in such a way that things can change within the story immediately, and you are questioning how things could have gone downhill for the characters so quickly. Overall, I continue to recommend this series. I'm thoroughly enjoying where this series is heading and how the TV series has shown a slightly different story. It's like getting two stories for the price of one, so it's definitely recommended that you watch and read it. |
