AUTHOR: Rebecca Jenshak GENRE: NA Sports Romance PAGES: 310 RELEASED: 19 October 2020 SERIES: Campus Nights #1 SYNOPSIS: Secretly hooking up with the team captain's sister was a bad idea. In my defense, the first time I saw her I didn't know who she was. Kind, gorgeous, a little naïve. Ginny brightened my world from day one. I knew I was no good for her. She was just out of a relationship and I had a reputation for having a new girl in my bed every weekend. I tried to do the right thing. Honest. I'm the one who insisted we should be just friends. That lasted about as long as you'd expect. But Ginny? She's the best - best friend, best everything. So yeah, hooking up with the team captain's sister wasn't a great idea. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A swoony & sweet friends-to-lovers and brother's roommate/friend romance with a fun cast of characters.
Ginny Scott, the younger sister of Valley U's hockey captain Adam, has arrived on campus for her freshman year, fresh off a breakup and ready to move on from the heartbreak, but not ready to date just yet. She knows no one, so Adam starts off by introducing her to his teammates, including one Heath Payne, the younger brother of Valley U basketball Alumni Nathan. He's instantly attracted to her, and Ginny isn't so heartbroken and off men to appreciate that he's damn good looking. Adam is quick to let his teammates know that Ginny if off-limits, which honestly suites Heath because he just really likes hanging out with her. But as the two become friends and spend lots of time together, it becomes harder for both to deny their chemistry. And so begins the pair embarking on a secret hook-up, which isn't so secret when everyone but Adam knows what's going on. Soon it's not just their friendship on the line, but hearts as well. Set in Rebecca's Valley U world, which was established with The Smart Jocks series and expanded a little more with Sweet Spot, this series introduces us to the hockey team. And let me tell you, I think this is my favourite friendship group that Rebecca has established! Don't get me wrong, I adore the basketballers, but these hockey guys are just SO much fun! I love a good friends-to-lovers story, and this one also delivered a side of brother's roommate/(best)friend, which is just a massive plus. Heath and Ginny's relationship was so fun, both as a friendship and a romantic relationship, so watching their relationship evolve from one to the other was super enjoyable. Not to mention, I just really liked Ginny's relationship with the rest of the guys and their neighbours Reagan and Dakota. Again, this is my favourite friend group! I love that Rebecca gave us a glimpse of our favourite basketballers, which was a nice little treat for anyone who's read the original series (which I recommend doing before diving in here as this series takes place after the aforementioned books). It's just one of the reasons why I like that Rebecca has written a lot of her books in the same universe - you get new characters in a familiar setting while having a connection to characters you've previously followed. I CANNOT wait for book two, which will follow a couple I started shipping early on in this book (you do not want to know how I excited I was at like 3am when I saw who's book was coming next). There's a little while to go until book two, so now is the perfect time to dive into the world of Valley U and catch up with all the sports romance drama that has already unfolded. |
