Why Hello There! It's been a few weeks, I know. The grand plan of smashing a new blog post out every week kind of flopped, BUT, it's okay. Anyway, I'm here now to share everything I've been loving over the past three months! There's a lot of things that have made it onto my Summer favourites list, and if you follow me anywhere on social media, some of these won't come as a surprise to you. So, without further ado, let's get into it! Kicking off my favourite beauty products is the Sukin Blemish Control Spot Banishing Gel. I've slowly been getting into more Sukin products, and this one has been so good to use. I'm a big fan of acne spot gels like this, and this one certainly delivers. While it's not totally prevented me from getting breakout, I've noticed they've reduce in severity, and the gel itself helps dry them out a lot quicker. The packaging claims that it 'works in just 30 minutes', and while I can't say if that's a true statement or not, I've found that within a couple of hours my breakouts aren't looking so bad. Being a natural, cruelty free and Australian made product is also a big plus. I'm definitely enjoying making my way through Sukin's products - they've been working so well for me so far! I'm pretty easy when it comes to makeup sponges - whatever brand or price is fine - but I've been absolutely LOVING the Model Rock Cosmetics Base Maker Blendable Coverage Pro Beauty Sponge. This was in the December Bellabox and I've been obsessed with it ever since. The sponge is super soft (both dry and wet) and blends out my foundation so beautifully, and I use a stick foundation that can be a little tricky to apply with a sponge. The texture of the sponge is also super nice, and not like one I've used before (I wish I could describe it to you!). Plus, I love the fine point that makes it super easy to get into the inner corner of your eye, especially with setting powder. As I said, I'm not really fussed with using only one brand of makeup sponge, but I'm totally looking to repurchase this, or at least try to find other brands with similar sponges. Speaking of stick foundation, Summer has been the reign of the ColourPop No Filter Stix Foundation. I've never used a stick foundation, but naturally wanted to try what ColourPop had to offer (in case you didn't know, it's like my all-time favourite makeup brand), and I was super impressed with the results. This is a nice lightweight foundation that's got great coverage. It's been perfect for the Summer when I don't want to be bogged down with thick, cakey makeup while sweating it out in the 40+ degree Celsius heat. The colour also matched me really well, which is a big plus considering it's an online purchase and I couldn't test shades out before hand. With my combination skin it also fought a pretty good battle against my oils, and while inevitably caving under the pressure, put up a pretty good fight for most of the day. This is now my go-to foundation and I can't get enough! Get it here.* And to set my favourite foundation is the Makeup Revolution Bake & Finish Powder. I've never really been big into baking my makeup, but I honestly think it's because the powders I've used in the past haven't been the best baking powders. This one is amazing. My makeup literally won't budge after using this, and although my oils eventually make their way through, my makeup doesn't look terrible at the end of the day. I've been using this under my eyes and on my noise, with a little on my forehead and I've been super impressed with the quality, considering this is a $9 product. A $9 product that gives you 35g of powder, I might add, way more product for your money than any other setting powder I've used. Would 110% recommend trying this powder. Get it here.* While we're on the subject of Makeup Revolution, it'll probably come as no surprise to anyone that I've also been loving the I Heart Revolution Chocolate Palettes. I've done a whole blog post on some of these palettes so I won't go into to much detail here, but apart from the gorgeous chocolate bar aesthetic, they are really nice palettes with great pigment and blend really well, while also being really affordable. I don't need them, but I totally want to get every single chocolate palette. Essentially finishing off the makeup routine I seem to have created with the order of these products is the DB Cosmetics Keep 'Em Klean Citrus Brush Cleaner. I got this for Christmas and will admit to being a little skeptical as to how well it would work. I tried it out for the first time on eyeshadow brushes that hadn't been cleaned for like two months and were covered in brown shadow. Literally thirty seconds later I had a clean brush that was ready to use again! While this isn't going to replace giving my brushes a deep clean every so often, it does mean I can have clean brushes in an instant when I need them. Never has cleaning my brushes been so easy! I finally dived into the Chicago Franchise this Summer! I've been wanting to watch these series since Chicago Fire came out like seven years ago. I started with Chicago Med, which has filled the medical drama void in my life - I'm so far behind on Grey's Anatomy that it's nice to have a new medical drama to watch - and I'm all caught up with the US. I've now jumped into Chicago Fire, with the idea being to incorporate Chicago P.D. and Chicago Justice into the marathon according to their air-dates, so that way I can eventually be caught up on the entire franchise and actually watch the crossover episodes as intended. It's a seriously awesome franchise that I'm glad to be finally watching! Summer also saw me dive back into Erinsborough and Ramsay Street, getting back to my Neighbours roots. And let me tell you, it's been a drama-filled Summer. For the first time ever, Neighbours aired all year round, with no more Christmas/New Year break. The 8000th episode also aired in late December, which was such a nostalgic episode. Right now we are in the middle of an absolutely heartbreaking storyline as Sonya Rebecchi, played by the amazing Eve Morey, is living with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. Next week's blog post is actually going to be inspired by Neighbours and the ugly-crying that it's putting us all through. (I wanna cry right now just thinking of what's to come - give @neighboursnerd a follow to help get us through this difficult time) Something I've been eyeing off for the longest time is the Typo Metal Drink Bottle, and I finally picked one up back in November. It is such a nice drink bottle that I've utilised a lot over the Summer (in fact, it's sitting on my desk right now as I type this). Just around the house I like to use a drink bottle over a cup or glass, and this drink bottle has come in handy during this hot summer. Because it's metal it keeps cold things cold and hot things hot, meaning I can put ice cold water in it at the beginning of the day and still have ice cold water in the afternoon. It's also just a really nice shape to hold and drink out of. I definitely need to pick up another so I can rotate between them! Another random favourite has been some silicon 3D phone cases! I originally planned just to get a Christmas tree for Christmas, but I grabbed a unicorn one at the same time, just for fun. They are so nice and comfy to hold, plus they look super cute and fun. I totally want to get more cases, even though I don't need them at all. I just found these on eBay, and there's so many different designs to pick from - it was so hard to choose which I wanted! My Summer 2019 playlist has been rocking out these past three months, and I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that most of my music favourites are from the same artist... Anyway, The Chainsmokers are killing it, as always, and I've been obsessed with three of their recent songs - This Feeling, Somebody and Who Do You Love. All three songs have such strong Closer vibes, which is probably why I love them so much. I actually didn't realise how much I enjoyed Somebody until the lyrics just got stuck on repeat in my head after a couple of listens. Also, the lyric video for Who Do You Love is so cool, so definitely check it out if you've not seen it yet. In short, The Chainsmokers continue to smash it with their releases and collabs, and I can't wait to hear what's next! A song that I didn't think I'd enjoy as much as I do it Roses by benny blanco, with Juice WRLD and Brendon Urie. I will admit, I totally only listened to the song to begin withe because Brendon was part of it. And while I don't think I would have stumbled upon the song had Brendon not been involved, it's such a good track with or without him (although his part does sound awesome against the rest of the song). This is another song that just got stuck in my head, and before I knew it I was listening to it on repeat! First YouTube favourite feels like SO long ago at this point, but that's Vlogmas - gosh I miss Vlogmas! Christmas is my favourite holiday, so it's no surprise that Vlogmas is one of my favourite times of year. There's just something so comfy and cozy about watching others prepare for the holiday. In particular, I really enjoyed watching Alfie, Zoe, Joe, Mark and The Youngs do Vlogmas, as well as dipping into a few other creators throughout the month. I can also guarantee I'll rewatch the videos in the middle of the year. I also started binge watching Draw With Jazza this year, which has been so fun and I can't believe it's taken me so long to watch one of his videos! Jazza is an Australian creator, artist and animator who creates some amazing pieces, many with non-traditional or children's art supplies. He's also got a really fun and upbeat onscreen presence, which makes watching his videos so enjoyable. Even if you aren't artistic in the slightest you'll enjoy his videos and the creations he makes. Final YouTube favourite is actually a TV favourite, but the entire series in on YouTube, so that's how I've been consuming it, and it's Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting. I didn't grow up with Bob Ross like many people (mainly because I'm Australian and he died the year before I was born), but Bob has become so popular over the past few years, with an official YouTube and Twitch channel dedicated to showcasing his highly-praised series. I've watched a number of episodes already and I'm still blown away by how he is able to create a stunning scenery from a blank canvas out of brush and knife techniques that you couldn't imagine would create the paintings he was able to create in half an hour. It's also so soothing to watch, and I've actually been using the weekend Twitch streams (that go for longer than a weekend) to fall asleep to. There have been so many different favourites for the past three months! And they are actually some of my favourite favourites which I cannot get enough of!
I'd love to know your thoughts on any of the products/songs/channels/series that I've mentioned. See You Soon! Victoria :) |
