AUTHOR: Emma Hart GENRE: NA Romance PAGES: 261 RELEASED: 6 July 2021 SERIES: The Introvert’s Guide #2 SYNOPSIS: Speed dating: the act in which you have two minutes to figure out how much of a jerk someone is. And pretend like you don’t have the hots for your son’s soccer coach. After four years living the single life, it’s decided that I, London Stuart, am back on the market. I’m not even mad when my cousins and best friends put my name down for the speed dating sessions. In fact, I’m actually a little excited about it. Until one of my dates turns out to be my six-year-old son’s irresistibly sexy soccer coach. His irresistibly sexy British soccer coach. Oliver Hayes is too good to be true—he’s tall, dark, handsome, hilarious, and he genuinely loves kids. Especially mine. But he’s not sure if he’s even staying in the country, and I’m not sure I can handle giving him my heart if he’s only going to leave. So why is he over for dinner almost every night? Why is he giving Leo private goalie sessions in the backyard? Why is he sending flowers to my desk at the newspaper? And why, oh why, can’t I stop kissing him? This book was kindly sent to from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A sweet & fun single-mum romcom read that’ll make you swoon over a British soccer coach.
Between her six-year-old son Leo, a grandmother who’s a little batty, her group of loved-up friends, and carrying an extra workload at the local newspaper, single-mum London hasn’t really had much time left to her to date. Not to mention, she doesn’t want her heart broken by another man. But with all but two of her friends partnered up, she’s left as an easy target for the new speed dating event at the bar. It’s hard to say no when your aunt and uncle own the bar and your cousin is organising the event, so she has no option but to put in an appearance. Enter Leo’s soccer coach Oliver, who’s another single in the group, that’s she’s lowkey been crushing on. When she’s given the job of putting together a special edition of the newspaper about the new sports centre, she’s suddenly seeing a lot more of Oliver. He makes it clear that he’s interested in her, going so far as to give Leo extra goalie training sessions to spend more time with her. With a mention of returning to England because he misses his family, London worries she’s setting herself up for heartbreak if she gives into temptation. A single-mum romance with a hot British male lead AND a small side of sport? That’s what I call a romance read! Both London and Oliver are characters we haven’t seen much of in any of the previous White Peaks books, so it was great to have a chance to explore characters we’ve really only heard about in passing (save for actually getting to know a little about London in the previous book). And I really enjoyed getting to see Leo, who was a super fun character that added another layer of comedy to the book. London and Oliver’s romance was sweet and fun, and a little on the slow-burn side (for a book this short anyway) in terms of them actually getting their act together, which made for a nice change to previous leads getting together fairly early on in the book. As always, White Peaks is a fun place to dive into. Between continuing to follow our previous protagonist’s stories, to keeping up with all the crazy shenanigans at the old folks home, there isn’t a dull moment when it’s not just the two current protagonists. Emma has fleshed out such a great ensemble in this world, and I’m a little sad that we only have one book left – can I once again request a book set solely in the retirement home, because that would be hilarious! With the third and final book in this trilogy coming soon, now is the time to dive into the world of White Peaks’ introverts and bookworms, and all the crazy shenanigans that come along with it. If you’re a romcom fan, these are definitely the books for you. |
