I don't know about you, but I'm feeling twenty-three?
Taylor Swift really should have done a whole remix album perfect for birthday memes, because I waited 22 years to use it, and it only lasted 365 days! Anyway, it was my birthday last Thursday and I'm now officially twenty-three, which is totally scary because I swear I skipped a few birthdays along the way. Seriously, when did I actually become an adult? Last week also marked five years since I graduated from high school, which is also completely crazy, because I swear it's only been two years. Enough rambling, today I wanted to do a little birthday haul and have a bit of a birthday chat along the way.
So Thursday was a pretty laid-back day for me. I didn't have a lot planned or things I absolutely needed to do, so it was I could totally chillax and enjoy the day. We're in Spring now here in Australia, which I'm absolutely loving, and clearly Mother Nature thought I deserved some lovely Spring weather on my birthday. This is why Spring is my favourite time of year - it's not too hot, not too cold, it smells amazing and it's nice to just be out in perfect weather.
I was actually home alone on my birthday - my mum was at work, and my dad had left early to travel two hours away to meet some people. Honestly, I don't actually mind having the house to myself, so it's not like I was bummed to spend the day by myself. In fact, it meant I could blast some music, sing at the top of my lungs, and dance around the house looking like an idiot. And that's what I did! Since my mum hadn't had the time, I ended up making my own birthday cake - the Mocha Cake from Tanya Bakes - with my 'twenty three' playlist on Spotify playing at full volume.
The cake, by the way, was absolutely delicious! This was the second time making the cake, and I actually used a lot more coffee in it this time round, so I'm pretty sure I had a full-on coffee at 7:30pm when we finally got round to singing Happy Birthday and eating my creation. Not that I minded the massive coffee hit the cake had - I love coffee, so it was amazing. I seriously recommend making the cake yourself if you're a fan of coffee and chocolate and total yumminess.
There was also a point in the day when I was feel a tad nostalgic. I suppose that's what happens when you get a year older - you can't believe another year has gone by, and you wonder where time has gone. I think it was because I had gone through my nostalgia playlist on Spotify and listening to some amazing old songs. This nostalgia got to the point where I pulled out a DVD I created - 18 Years Of Memories - which is a mix of old home videos and photos focusing around my Nan & Pop's farm. As kids, my cousins and I loved to stay at our Nan & Pop's place in the holidays, and so many amazing memories were created there. We were so bummed when they decided to sell up and move into town. In 2015, after digitising all of my Nan & Pop's old home videos (OMG, there is hours and hours of chidhood footage that I'm so fortunate to have), I combined it together with a bunch of old photos, and a little vlog-type video we made after the clearing sale, to create a movie full of memories. I haven't actually watched back this movie since the Christmas I gave a DVD copy to everyone, so it was fun to look back on these fun memories.
Of course, my Birthday wouldn't be complete without presents! Of course, birthdays aren't about the presents, but they sure are nice things to receive, no matter how big or small or expensive they are. This year, my mum really struggled with what to get me, which resulted in a recent shopping and movie day where I just handed her stuff, saying "here, give this to me for my birthday." The gift bag I received from my parents was such a crazy mix of things, but at the same time, all things that I love (obviously, since I picked most of it out myself).
So, what did I get?
I finally got a chance to smell the Splash Botanics range (which is amazing btw)! I got two of the So Soft lip oils and two Quench Me body sorbets, plus the 'Fairest Of Them All' makeup pouch. If you know me, you'll know I have amassed quiet the Zoella Beauty collection, so I'm always excited to add to it (just wait for a Feel Unique haul I have coming up in October...)
I'm very much a collector of history magazines (seriously, just a quick count of the magazine holders sitting next to my desk, has me sitting on around FIFTY of them - a lot are Inside History and National Geographic's History). I got The Australian Women's Weekly souvenir edition '85 Years Celebrating the Royals', and All About History's 'Ancient History's Lost Cities'. Both are totally different from one another, but both about topics that I love!
I'm a big fan of reed diffusers, so my mum got me another one for my birthday this year. Actually, the one she got me last year (tropical coconut cream) still has a bit longer to go until it's empty, but at least I've got another one ready to go (very mixed berry). The Scents of Nature range by Tilley Soaps Australia is absolutely amazing, so if you're looking for a good reed diffuser that lasts and smells delicious, you need to check these ones out.
I love candles, but I don't burn them enough. I'm more a fan of having a scented candle and just smelling it rather than burning it. But I do want to start burning candles more often, and this one - Rose and White Musk - smells amazing.
This was an unknown inclusion in my present, and I'm super excited for it. I love puzzles, but this puzzle - Murder on the Titanic: A Murder Mystery Jigsaw Puzzle - takes puzzles to the next level. Not only is it a 1000 piece puzzle, but it comes with a murder mystery story. You read the story, make the puzzle, then using clues from the story and puzzle, try to solve the mystery. I've not seen a puzzle like this before, but it sounds like its going to be super fun!
I'm a total chocoholic, so seeing a box of Malteasers and a Toblerone bar (which I haven't had in AGES) in the bag was exciting. I can confirm that the Malteasers didn't last long...
Plus, I treated myself to some birthday presents thanks to birthday discounts from online retailers, although I'm still waiting for some of these to actually arrive. I grabbed three books from Angus & Robertson - Losing The Field by Abbi Glines, and the small paperback editions of Nevernight and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. I placed a fairly large order on Feel Unique, which I hinted at before, but you'll have to wait to actually see what I got. And as this post goes live, I'm trying to figure out what book/s to get from Dymocks...
People always ask 'do you feel any different/older now that you're [insert age here]?'. I don't know why they think you suddenly feel different on your birthday than you did to the day before. I can tell you that I still feel like I did when I was 22, but it's still weird to think that I am actually 23.
See You Soon!
