Happy Humpday Lovelies! I absolutely LOVE my crystal collection, which currently includes 32 different varieties of crystals and stones. But if you’re just getting into crystals, it can be difficult to know where to start, and with so many varieties to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming. Of course, building our collections mainly comes down to intuition and what we feel most drawn to, but if you need a little help getting start, I thought I’d whip up a list of five crystals that are great for beginners. These are the crystals you definitely need to have in your collection, especially if you don’t plan on having a large collection. Although, none of us really plan on having a large crystal collection, it just seems to end up that way... If you are just getting into crystals, it’s also a really great idea to get one or two books on crystals and their properties. This will help guide you on how best to use the crystals you purchase, as well as giving you an insight into other crystals you may want to slowly add to your collection. The book I own which has been an amazing addition to my spirituality bookshelf if Cassandra Eason’s Crystals, which “is the essential guide to 500 common, rare and recently discovered stones. Each gem is photographed and its properties, history and uses explained.” Obviously, there are plenty of websites dedicated to similar to guides, but there’s something special about owning a physical book with all the information you need. CLEAR QUARTZ There’s a reason clear quartz is one the main suggestions for crystal newbies – it’s an all-purpose crystal and a great place to start when starting out your crystal collection. Clear quartz is believed to contain pure life force, according to most cultures, and because of this is also known as the Stone of the Life Force. It’s a crystal that brings energy, good fortune and prosperity, and can act as an amplifier or substitute for any other crystal in healing – if you choose to only have one healing crystal, clear quartz is it. GREEN AVENTURINE This one is a personal favourite, hence why it’s on the list. But it’s also a really great beginner crystal. Also known as the Stone of Good Luck, it’s a good luck charm that is often associated with prosperity and growth, with many people using them in money jars. It’s also a crystal that helps those with anxiety, with my crystal actually taking the form of a worry stone for this very reason. It’s definitely a good crystal to keep on your desk or by your bed. The crystal also adds a nice pop of colour to your collection. MOONSTONE This is another personal favourite, but is a must-have crystal for those who have a connection to the moon and lunar cycle. Also known as the Crystal of Intuition, there are actually several varieties of the crystal, including peach and rainbow, with each variety having their own individual properties that you may connect with more than another variety. In general, the crystal attracts prosperity and success with lunar energies. The flashes of colour present in moonstone are also super gorgeous, so definitely try and see this crystal in person at some point. SMOKY QUARTZ Smoky quartz is a tinted smoky brown or dark grey version of the clear quartz, and so embodies many of the properties of its clear sister. However, this crystal is a great guardian against bad luck and helps reduce anxiety, insomnia and panic attacks, making it another great crystal to sit on your desk or bedside table. It’s also said to be a great crystal for travellers, helping to keep them safe on their journey. SELENITE Finally we have selenite, named after the Ancient Greek moon goddess Selene. This is a great crystal cleansing crystal when charged by the moon, so it’s good to have this one in your collection. Aside from cleansing its fellow crystals, selenite also brings about inner peace for those who spend a lot of time in their head, as well as spreading calm energy. Many people have selenite points or towers, which help centre and strengthen its energy, particularly once charged by a full moon. One of my favourite ways of incorporating crystal energy into my life is through jewellery, predominantly necklaces, so do keep that in mind when making a purchase – consider having a clear quartz point for your bedside table, but a green aventurine necklace to carry that energy with you. And consider mixing up your collection with the types of crystal forms you buy – this will help add more variety to even the smallest collection.
