Happy Hump Day! We’ve once again come to that time of year in Australia - January 26. You know, “Australia Day”. The date marks the day that Arthur Philip raised the Union Jack at Port Jackson in 1788, establishing Australia. Or really, establishing the colony of New South Wales, essentially making it New South Wales’ birthday. For the longest time within the colony, it was actually referred to as Anniversary Day, mainly by those living in New South Wales. But, it also marks the day that Australia’s First Nations peoples lost their land to European settlers, starting a whole tidal wave of mistreatment and inequality that still exists today. It’s a Day of Mourning. So while a good portion of Australians are going to be ‘celebrating Australia Day’ tomorrow, here’s how you can mark January 26 if you don’t want to jump onto the insensitive patriotic bandwagon. Happy Humpday Lovelies! Gosh, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted! How’s your April been so far? I’m sure we can all agree that this year is really starting to fly by! This week, I wanted to talk about self care, and in particular, self care that can be done in less than 30 minutes. Most of us have a lot going on in our lives, and it can be so easy to put regular self care on the backburner. But in reality, it’s so easy to fit a bit of self care into your routine – you don’t have to dedicate whole Sunday to ALL the self care activities imaginable, but you can fit one or two items into your day-to-day life. Because it’s important to put yourself first and keep on top of your mental health! Happy Sunday Everyone! Cue the quarter-life crisis because the clock has struck midnight which means I'm now TWENTY FIVE. That's freaking scary because I swear we've skipped a few years at some point. I swear it's only been a couple of years since I graduated high school, not bloody SEVEN. Time is a crazy thing, huh. Anyway, I thought I'd do the totally cliched birthday content of sharing 25 things I've learnt by the age of 25. It's a bit of a random list, but so is everything I've learnt over the past 25 years. Happy Isolation Everyone! We're all stuck at home, or most of us are anyway, and I'm sure we're all struggling a little to stay motivated and positive as the world seems to fall apart around us. And if you're sitting there staring at the wall because you don't know what you should be doing during this time, this is the list to spark some inspiration and motivation. I'm sure there are hundreds of lists like this popping up online, but one more can't hurt when we're all stuck in the same situation! Hey Everyone! Over the Queen's Birthday long weekend, I spent five days working at the annual Sheep Dog Trials hosted by my local Show Society. Why? Because I'm one of the many committee members who work hard to make the event successful. And although I was exhausted at the end of it, I enjoyed every second of it. Does this intro sound familiar? It should, because I started off my 'Volunteering: Why I Love It' post from a year ago tomorrow the exact same way. After the exhausting five days I had last week (six if you count the hectic day of final preparations before everything kicked off), the idea for this blog post hit me and I knew I had to share my thoughts with the world in the hopes that someone, just one person, would be inspired to get involved. Hiya! I'm a volunteer and I love it. |
