AUTHOR: Jessica Roe GENRE: NA Contemporary PAGES: 221 RELEASED: 15 December 2014 SERIES: Fortunate #1 SYNOPSIS: Blair Ackerman is a girl with crazy hair and a bad attitude. She's a girl who doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She's a girl with only a duffel bag and a car named Nancy to her name, and that's okay by her. She's tough because she has to be. Nobody gets inside her head, nobody gets inside her heart. Silver is everything she's never wanted. He's a good guy, a smart guy, a guy who's never met a girl like her before. He's the kind of guy who loves history, who laughs at his own jokes, who kisses like a sinful dream. He's the kind of guy who might just break down her walls and get inside her heart and make her feel. Too bad he's forbidden. Because when Blair's mom dies and she's sent to live with the father she's never met and a family that doesn't want her, Blair and Silver cross paths in ways they never could have imagined, and they discover that even though they know they should, they can't quite bring themselves to stay apart. Opposites really do attract. Ah a forbidden romance that you just can't help but ship.
After Blair's mother dies, she's forced to move across the country to live with her father and his family. Only trouble is she's never met the man and would rather be anywhere else in the world. But all she needs to do it finish her final year of high school and then she'll be off at college. While her new family is far from welcoming, she finds comfort in an elderly neighbour, who becomes a surrogate grandmother for her. What Blair didn't expect to discover was that her grandson, Silver, just happens to be the guy she made out with at a diner on her way to her new home. But just when Blair and Silver begin to fall for one another, a shock revelation threatens to tear them apart, or will it? Although they try, they can't bring themselves to stay away from each other, even though they're relationship is forbidden. When the blurb said that Blair and Silver's relationship was forbidden, I certainly didn't expect it to be what it was - but you'll have to read it to find out, because it's certainly a great plot twist. Let's just say, I was getting major Pretty Little Liars vibes (which is why I actually ended up rereading it after I rewatched season one). While I really liked the romance in this book, what I loved the most was Blair slowly finding a place in the world and making some amazing friends. And even though things with her new family are tense and shit at times, things gradually get better and its just really nice to watch Blair develop these different relationships. Some of the scenes with her new group of friends felt like The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, where Charlie finally has some friends and a place to belong. The same thing happens to Blair. If you like new adult contemporary romance, then you will probably enjoy this book. You'll be heartbroken with Blair and be wishing that she and Silver would just get together already, despite the forbidden nature of their relationship. There'll be laughs and tears. This is the first book I've read of Jessica's and I can't wait to continue on with the rest of this series and see what she's done with the other characters. I really like her writing style, and as someone who's become quiet obsessed with new adult and contemporary this year, it was a great read. |
