Author: J.D. Hollyfieldd Genre: New Adult Romance Pages: 299 Released: 27 April 2020 SYNOPSIS: Falling in love was the easy part. Being secretly in love with my brother’s best friend is where it got tricky. Levi Dent was off-limits. Which was probably for the best, since he barely knew I existed. Until one night I saw an opportunity I couldn’t resist. The problem was, I got caught. She tricked me. I knew there was something so familiar about her, but I just couldn’t resist. Hannah Matthews was nothing more than my best friend’s little sister. Except she wasn’t so little anymore. I need to forget all about her. If only it were that easy... I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Wildfire Marketing Solutions in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. A swoon-worthy best friend's little sister/brother's best friend romance that will suck you in when it takes a turn...
On the day of his best friend's wedding, Levi's mates set him up for a quick mystery closet hookup after the ceremony to help get him back in the game. What he doesn't expect is the identity of his mystery hookup to be his best friend's little sister, who's not so little anymore. Seeing a chance to save Levi from hooking up with an absolute bitch, as well as giving into her childhood crush, Hannah decides to take a leap and do something wild for a change. Things only get more complicated when Hannah finds out she will be working alongside Levi at her father's law firm. Both want more, but both know the risks of being in a relationship and jeopardising friendships that have lasted a lifetime. But that's not all that's at risk, as relationships are tested, trust broken, and lives are left hanging in the balance. This was my first J.D. Hollyfield book and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was totally just expecting this to be a casual brother's best friend/best friend's little sister story, which it was, but there was SO much more to this story that added a world of depth to these characters. I wasn't expecting it to go where it did, or to be so enthralled by the subplot that eventuated in the end. I really enjoyed Levi and Hannah's relationship - you could really feel that they had known each other for years and grown up together, and I loved getting little flashbacks to childhood moments. It was sweet, cute, swoon-worthy and definitely a bit of an emotional rollercoaster as they navigated everything that happened throughout the story. And while I did know where the conflict in their relationship would lie, I did not expect it to take the turn it did. It definitely took this story to the next level, and as much I would have enjoyed a casual fluffy read, the darker turn certainly sucked me right in. This is a must-read for romance fans, especially if you're looking for something that has a bit more to it than just a fluffy romance. Don't get me wrong, the majority of the book is all about the romance and relationship, but there's a great underlying storyline that is sure to draw you in even further. |
