Hey, how you doin’? Did you read that in Joey’s voice? If not, then no soup for you! Yes, I know that’s a Seinfeld reference, but goddammit I do love me some 90s sitcoms, so just let me have it okay! Anyways, it’s about time we had another swatch party around here, this time in the form of the Friends x Revolution collection! I’m a massive Friends fan and will happily sit though episodes even if I’ve seen them a million times already. Hell, I’ll even quote along with the episode, which makes me a terrible person to actually watch the series with. Friends is 100% a personality trait at this point, but it’s also such a comfort watch for me. So when Makeup Revolution started collabing with Friends I was super excited and eager to get my hands on the products. But because there are quite a few products in this collection, let’s just start with three girl’s palettes. The 9-pan character palettes are super cute and all represent each character fairly well, from both the shades used and their names. And while they all work well on their own, they also all complement each other really well, making it super easy to dip in and out of multiple palettes. There’s also a really nice mix of matte, shimmer and glitter, so you can go from a casual everyday look or something a bit more glam for a night out. monica “Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You’re gonna love it.” Monica’s palette repping the purple of her apartment and the *iconic* image of the yellow framed peephole, is a sign that whoever was on the creative team actually knows what they’re doing. And the shades themselves? They definitely feel very Monica Geller. Monica’s palette contains four shimmer shades, with ‘Twins’ actually also containing a little bit of glitter too. The shimmers, like all Revolution eyeshadows, are super pigmented, while the mattes are really buildable. I’m a sucker for neutrals, so I’ve gravitated more towards ‘Bing’ and ‘Frizzy’ which I love pairing with ‘Thanksgiving’. Important to note that three of the shades – ‘Geller Cup’, ‘Frizzy’ and ‘Obsessive’ – are classed as pressed pigments. rachel “Does this look like something the girlfriend of a palaeontologist would wear?” Even though she spent more time working in the fashion industry, Rachel will forever, and rightfully, be associated with working at Central Perk, so it’s super fitting that her image is of the *iconic* orange couch. Not sure where exactly the pink of the packaging comes from, but it works nonetheless. Rachel’s palette has a similar colour story to Monica’s in terms of a focus on warm neutrals and pinks, but it differs with the lack of orange tones. There are five shimmers in this palette, although ‘Push Over’ does lean more towards being a matte, but there’s a bit of a shimmer undertone. ‘90s’ is also the exact pink shade I would associate with the 90s, so round of applause to Revolution for capturing a decade in one shade. Again, I’m a neutrals gal, so ‘Barneys’ and ‘Crush’ are my go-to shades, this time pairing them with ‘Chip’ or ‘Tag’. There are only two pressed pigments in this palette – ‘Barneys’ and ‘Pushover’. phoebe “They don’t know that we know they know we know.” And rounding out the gals is the resident queen of weird with her *iconic* taxi cab. Again, not really sure where the blue of the packaging came from, but it seems to work with the yellow cab image, and of course goes with the pink and purple of the previous two palettes. Compared to Monica and Rachel’s palettes, I feel like I was expecting Phoebe’s to be a little more out-there and colourful to kind of go with her carefree and weird personality. In saying that, the shades used kind of make sense for Phoebe anyway. There are six shimmers, with ‘Lobster’ being similar to ‘Push Over’ in terms of it being more of a matte shade, and one glitter shade in ‘Science Boy’. ‘Triplet’ is super similar to ‘90s’, but it definitely leans more towards purple, where ‘90s’ is more pink. Of the three girl’s palettes, this one has the most pressed pigments – ‘Smelly Cat’, ‘Lobster’, ‘Buffay’, and ‘Science Boy’. Overall, all three palettes definitely capture the spirit of our three leading ladies, and they are definitely shades each of them would wear themselves. I’ll admit, Phoebe’s palette is the one I dip into least, but her palette does have some gorgeous shimmers that I do really need to utilise more.
If you’re a makeup fan AND a Friends fan, or know someone who is, these palettes and this collection is definitely one to check out, whether you want to go all-out and get every single product, just a select few, or maybe you just want to focus on a particular character. If you’re in Australia like me, Revolution products can be purchased from Priceline, Glam Raider, or the Australian Makeup Revolution site. Let me know in the comments who your favourite Friends character is, and also which of these three palettes you like the best! Well, see ya pals! Victoria :) |
