AUTHOR: Shannon O’Connor GENRE: Queer Romance PAGES: 182 pages RELEASED: 15 December 2022 SERIES: The Holidays With You SYNOPSIS: Morgan loves three things; Books, women, and being single. But when Grad school costs more than her rent, she needs to come up with a way to make some money and fast. After a one night stand with a beautiful woman, she wakes the next morning in a hurry to make it to her interview as a live in nanny. Despite acing the interview, she has to pass one final test; meeting the mother—who just so happens to be her one night stand. They both decide to call it a one night thing and move forward, with Morgan becoming her son’s nanny. As a divorced, single mom Lucy can get all the help she needs. But as the mistletoe is hung and the stockings are filled, are sparks flying too? As Lucy begins to fall for her son’s nanny, she shows her love in a series of her favorite books. Counting down the 24 days of Christmas with Morgan, by trying to tell her how she feels, worried she doesn’t feel the same. Morgan devours each book, desperate to know if Lucy is sending her a sign. But as Christmas approaches, will each woman get what they want? Or will they be stuck out in the cold as the days of Morgan’s nannying contract are up? When your one-night-stand turns out to be your new boss…
After quitting her job as a bartender, Morgan is in desperate need of a job if she intends to finish her teaching degree. But that can be tomorrow’s problem - tonight, Morgan just wants to focus on the beautiful woman at the bar and the best one-night-stand of her life. Turns out though, that Lucy, the women she just hooked up with, is her potential new boss for the live-in nanny job her friend sussed out for her. Morgan is the most qualified applicant that Lucy has had for the job, so the pair agree to put their night of passion in the past and focus on Lucy’s seven-year-old son Noel. Morgan instantly hits it off with Noel and it’s not long before she has a blossoming friendship with Lucy. When Lucy learns that Morgan is big into reading, she starts leaving her books and soon-to-be-published manuscripts on her nightstand, each with a subtle hint of how Lucy really feels about her nanny. With Christmas approaching, they tentatively embark on a relationship, but with Morgan’s contract coming to an end before the new year, and Lucy’s worry that she and Noel might be too much of a commitment for Morgan in the long-run, both aren’t sure if they’ll get their Christmas wish. This was a really fun festive read with a sweet and spicy sapphic romance. And it combines some of my favourite romance tropes - boss/nanny, age-gape, and single parent! Morgan and Lucy’s romance was really fun and sweet, and I loved seeing it develop through the books that they shared on with another, and how they both put Noel first in every situation. As much as I enjoyed this story, the pacing was a little off - things either happened too quickly or popped up with little to no explanation. I feel like the book could have benefited from having 50 to 100 more pages, just to flesh out that characters a little more and give the story more time to simmer rather than powering through with Morgan and Lucy’s relationship. And as the first book in a companion novel series, this would have also allowed time to get to better know the characters coming up in the sequel. Not that that’s going to stop me from continuing on with Ellie and Reese’s story, but there’s more of a hook for Bella’s story than there is Ellie’s, so I was kind of expecting Bella to have the follow-up book. All that aside, if you’re looking for a quick little festive read with a nice little dollop of spice, this is certainly one to check out in the lead-up to Christmas! |
