AUTHOR: Emma Hart GENRE: Contemporary romance PAGES: 258 RELEASED: 12 December 2017 SYNOPSIS: Two mechanics. One rivalry. She’ll prove she’s as good as she says she is. He’ll prove her place isn’t under the hood. It’s over it. “Don’t let the bastards get you down.” For twenty-six years, I lived by my daddy’s motto. Which is why “Mechanic Wanted” is all it takes for me to apply for the job at the garage we once owned. And I meet the biggest bastard of them all. Dexter Ryne. Hotter than Hell in July and a firm believer that my place is on reception, taking phone calls and looking pretty. Not getting dirty under the hood of a car. Determined to prove each other wrong, we make a deal. I have three weeks to prove my worth as a mechanic. If I don’t, I’m on telephone duty. If I do, he’ll accept defeat and make my job permanent. Now, all I have to do is fight my attraction to the cocky little… beep. Problem is, an engine isn’t the only thing he knows how to make purr… What do you get when you throw a strong, determined woman and a headstrong man into a garage and make them work side-by-side? A hell of a lot of sexual tension.
When Jamie finds out that the mechanic who took over her dad's garage is hiring, she's sure she's not going to get the job - she's a woman after all. That, and she knows it's going to be weird working again in the garage where she grew up. But when mechanic Dex thinks she's incapable of working anywhere but behind the front desk, she takes up his challenge of a three week trial to prove that she's just as capable as he, if not better, at the job. But they're at loggerheads with one another, and naturally sparks begin to fly. And although they don't want to admit it to anyone, not even themselves, they both find each other attractive and wouldn't mind getting to know one another, if only for one night. The only problem is, they can't go two minutes without arguing about something. But all that changes when they get to know one another outside the garage, and that ever-building sexual tension comes to a climax. Literally. Strong, determined female lead with a 'take no shite' attitude? Sign me up! After reading Miss Fix-It I knew this book was going to be just as enjoyable. It's so great to see a story revolve around a women in a non-traditional employment role, in a field still heavily controlled by men. Jamie knows the struggle of being a female mechanic, but doesn't let it hold her back because she knows she can do the job just as well as a man. She doesn't let her gender define her - she's capable of the job and just because she has breasts doesn't mean she can't do said job. With the book told in alternating perspectives, we also get to see Dex's reaction to Jamie's role as a mechanic, and how her strength and determination do surprise him, even though he has seen female mechanics before. Of course, a lot of his surprise does come from the fact that she is a very attractive mechanic, but that all the more breaks stereotypes - just because you're attractive, doesn't mean you can't get your hands dirty. The sexual tension between these two is evident from the moment they meet and continues to build until they both can't contain their feelings. Of course, it's inevitable from the beginning that these two will eventually hook up, but it's interesting to see the build up evolve over the course of the book. Between their banter and arguing, it's hard not to fall in love with this pairing. Throw in Jamie and Dex's families, who are all great side characters, and who all make hilarious comments on said sexual tension, and you've got a hilariously romantic steamy read you won't be able to put down. Contemporary romance fans looking for a book with a female lead who can easily hold her own, this is the one for you. |
