AUTHOR: Meryl Wilsner GENRE: Queer Romance PAGES: 352 RELEASED: 11 October 2022 SYNOPSIS: When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup—it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom—the hot, older woman Cassie slept with. Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. In her defense, she hadn’t known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin’s daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the next morning. And despite Erin's better judgement—how could sleeping with your daughter’s friend be anything but bad?—she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night. What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost? A one-night-stand has the potential to lead to something real in this sizzling age-gap Sapphic romance.
Escaping her university’s Family Weekend to an off-campus bar results in Cassie hooking-up with an older woman in the backseat of a car. Older women are nothing new for Cassie, but hooking up with who she later learns is her friend’s mom, Erin, is. Their connection to one another, and their age gap, should be enough to put an end to any further hook-ups. That’s until Parker invites Cassie home with her for Christmas for two weeks. Now, Cassie and Erin are under the same roof and their chemistry is still undeniable. Soon, they’re sneaking around behind Parker’s back, texting all the time, FaceTiming while they’re cooking dinner, and meeting up whenever they’re in the same neighbourhood. They’re both happier than they’ve ever been, but their relationship has the potential to destroy other relationships around them, but maybe it’s a risk just worth taking. I’ve been hanging out for this book from the moment I finished Meryl’s debut Something To Talk About earlier this year. And this beauty not only lived up to my expectations, but exceeded them! I literally read this book in one day, and could not get enough of Cassie and Erin’s story. This might only be Meryl’s second book, but I’m calling it now – Meryl can not only write amazing Sapphic romances, but also fantastic age-gap romances! This sizzling romance dives straight into Erin and Cassie’s relationship, with the pair hooking up in the first chapter and then figuring out their connection through Parker in the next. That means that the whole book is dedicated to following the development of their relationship and navigating their developing feelings for one another – it makes for a nice change from a slow build-up to the initial hook-up and a drawn-out discovery of their connection to one another. I couldn’t get enough of Cassie and Erin’s relationship and loved following their journey throughout the book. Meryl served up the perfect mix of heart, angst, sweetness, and spice in crafting their story, and I almost didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters on the final page. On top of the romance, I also really enjoy the friendship elements in the book, and how they evolved as the romance of the story progressed. If you’re searching for your next queer romance read, look no further than this beauty! It’s a wonderful Sapphic read that is a must for everyone who enjoys a good age-gap in their romance. I cannot wait to see what Meryl is working on for their next book, because I guarantee it will be another fabulous read! |
