Maya and Skye have one thing in common – they share an ex-boyfriend and their time with him most certainly overlapped. Now, two years after Jordy cheated on Maya, he’s bringing six of his exes together for a reality dating show so he can re-explore the connections he once had. For Skye, Jordy was the one that got away, and she’s hoping that maybe she can reconnect with him again on the show. For Maya, she wants nothing to do with Jordy after the way he broke her heart and made her out to be the bitter and unhinged ex. But she can’t pass up the opportunity to get revenge and show the world that he’s not the sweet and caring guy he portrays himself to be. And while Maya knew she would have to not only have to spend time with Jordy but also Skye, she wasn’t expecting to be sharing a room with her as well. It’s a rocky start to their time on the show, but when Maya and Skye finally clear the air, they realise that working together might be the best way to bring their ex down. What they didn’t expect was sparks to fly, and not with Jordy. A reality dating show where the exes of the leading man actually fall in love with each other? YES, 1000% YES! Romances set on the set of a reality show are some of my favourites to read – the dynamics of the on-camera and off-camera personas and relationships are just SO good! And Sophie certainly delivered an excitingly sweet and swoony drama-filled romance that I would 100% love to see play out on a reality dating show. Screw The Bachelor – give me Second-Chance Romance any day (yes, I know Ex On The Beach exists, but it’s not the same!). Maya and Skye were both really fun and interesting characters and I loved getting inside both of their heads as the story progressed. In particular, I liked seeing their relationship develop from essentially being enemies to becoming friends and then falling into a romantic relationship. Although, I would have liked to have seen them as enemies a little longer as it felt a little rushed that the pair would instantly patch things up once Maya revealed the truth about Jordy to Skye – I wanted more angst and tension and build-up! But nevertheless, it was a cute relationship to follow. I also really loved the dynamic of all the exes and how their friendships developed. It would have been really cool to see more of their relationship with Maya and Skye as well as they all seemed like a really fun bunch of characters. This is a really fun Sapphic spin on the reality dating show trope, so if you’re a romance fan and can’t get enough of queer books, this is definitely a book you need to add to the top of your TBR! |
