AUTHOR: Chloe Peterson GENRE: Queer Romance PAGES: 250 pages RELEASED: 21 January 2023 SERIES: Billionaire #1 SYNOPSIS: Thawing a heart of ice is an art... After years of dead-end jobs, 26-year-old Elliot catches a break she never expected. Her new boss, Cameron Pierce, is as icy and ruthless as the rumors say. But Elliot is determined to make this job work, even if it means burying her social life. What she doesn’t expect is the scintillating chemistry that grows between them Cameron, 47, is a perfectionist and has had her fair share of subpar assistants. When her best friend claims to have found the right one, Cameron is skeptical. At first, she’s convinced she’s made a mistake as Elliot struggles to keep up. But Elliot proves to be the perfect fit. Perhaps a little more. With a breach threatening to destroy her empire, the last thing Cameron needs is a battle with her raw attraction for Elliot. A battle she’s starting to lose… When falling for your boss means falling for the ice queen….
Cameron Pierce has had a revolving door of assistants. None of them have lived up to her standards and demands, and she has no faith in her newest hire. Elliot has been stuck in a few dead-end jobs, but it’s in one of those dead-end jobs where she meets Hayden Jones, one of Cameron’s best friends, who has faith that she can rock the position of Cameron’s assistant. Ever the ice queen, Cameron doesn’t make things easy for Elliot. And although she wants to give up, Elliot is determined to prove she is right for the role. When an IT breach threatens to bring down Cameron’s empire, things get even more hectic for Cameron and her assistant, allowing Elliot to step up and show she’s more than just a little ol’ assistant. And as if they had the time for it, both are habouring an attraction to one another. Having spent a lot of time building up her ice queen exterior, Cameron is throwing out mixes signals to Elliot, who’s already struggling to keep up with Cameron on a professional level, let alone a personal one. The age-gap and workplace tropes go hand-in-hand really well, and Chloe delivers a fun one full of tension, chemistry, swoon, and corporate espionage. Cameron and Elliot have great chemistry, no matter how much Cameron initially tries to deny her connection with her assistant. The relationship between Cameron and Elliot is an interesting one as their professional relationship has a massive impact on how their personal one develops. It’s definitely on the slow-burn side of things, and as the ice queen begins to melt, there are more and more sweet moments between the two. Having already read Not On The Agenda, I had seen the couple in their happy bubble during the course of Hayden’s HEA, so it was nice to come back and actually follow their story, as well as a better introduction to the Billionaire friend group. And I’m excited to keep following these characters in the rest of the series As I said in my previous review for Not On The Agenda, Chloe’s writing and pacing seems to be a little off, which throws off the flow of the story. There are occasions where it feels like a bit of whiplash as we bounce between Cameron and Elliot’s perspectives with little to no explanation or set-up to what is going on and how it falls into the timeline of the book. Parts of the storyline definitely needed to be fleshed out with more exposition to allow for more build-up to big moments that just ended up popping out of nowhere before the story moved onto the next thing. If you’re looking for a dose of workplace romance, age-gap romance, or your next sapphic read, Chloe has you sorted with this ice queen romance |
