AUTHOR: Connor Franta GENRE: Memoir PAGES: 308 RELEASED: 18 April 2017 SYNOPSIS In his New York Times bestselling memoir, A Work in Progress, Connor Franta shared his journey from small-town Midwestern boy to full-fledged Internet sensation. Exploring his past with humor and astounding insight, Connor reminded his fans of why they first fell in love with him on YouTube—and revealed to newcomers how he relates to his millions of dedicated followers. Now, two years later, Connor is ready to bring to light a side of himself he’s rarely shown on or off camera. In this diary-like look at his life since A Work In Progress, Connor talks about his battles with clinical depression, social anxiety, self-love, and acceptance; his desire to maintain an authentic self in a world that values shares and likes over true connections; his struggles with love and loss; and his renewed efforts to be in the moment—with others and himself. Told through short essays, letters to his past and future selves, poetry, and original photography, Note to Self is a raw, in-the-moment look at the fascinating interior life of a young creator turning inward in order to move forward. Emotional and motivating.
Note To Self is a continuation of A Work In Progress, reflecting on the past two years of Connor's life where he's gone through a lot of change, heartbreak and realisation. In these pages, he looks at his first major breakup, dealing with depression and trying to live life to the fullest. All this is told through a series of stunning photographs, beautiful poems and short essays. As a fan of Connor, having watched him now for nearly three years, I was very excited for this book. I really enjoyed A Work In Progress, especially Connor's writing style, so I knew I'd enjoy this. Note To Self is very different to his first memoir. This one is more emotional, more revealing, and focuses more on his own thoughts and feelings, rather than things he's done in life. Connor openly discusses heartbreak and depression, holding very little back about the things he's experiences and felt as a result. It can be confronting at times, but it's also a reminder that you're not alone in what you feel, that other people have experienced the same or similar, and that you can come out the other side. As with his first book, I really enjoyed Connor's writing style. It's just such a joy to read and it adds an interesting spin to his memoir. It's very conversational, and having also listened to some of the audiobook, it's very Connor. If you're a fan of Connor and his videos, then I'm sure you're going to love this book. Even if you don't have a clue who he is, I definitely recommend picking this book up. You don't have to know Connor to appreciate the messages he's filled this book with and the personal stories that he's shared. A must-read. |
