Author: Jaymin Eve & Tate James Genre: New Adult Romance Pages: 314 Released: 16 April 2020 Series: Royals of Arbon Academy #2 SYNOPSIS: She's my last chance. Those four words echo in Violet Spencer’s mind, tugging at her curiosity even as rage builds within her. Arbon Academy was supposed to be a bright new start. An opportunity for greatness, and something an orphan girl could only dream of. For a while there, it seemed to be exactly that. But Violet's bright future is suddenly looking dim. Arbon Academy and Prince Alex are nothing but a facade. A trap. In a sinister world of ballgowns and backstabbing, of perfumes and politics, of indulgent parties and illegal sword fights, Violet now faces the biggest challenge of all. Recovering her shattered heart from the prince who crushed it. Supported by her new friends, Violet wants to make Alex feel the pain of his betrayal. Prince Rafe wants nothing more than to help make that happen, but things aren't always so straightforward. Don't break tradition. Don't let them know you know. Don't lose your heart... again. These rules will keep Violet alive. But at what cost? The world of the royals is a dangerous one, especially when you put your heart in the hands of two playboy princes...
After overhearing Alex's plans for Violet, she's determined to do two things - not put her heart on the line again, and kill Alex. Both are easier said than done, because now she's juggling the two most powerful princes in the world - Jordan and Rafe - and she can't kill Alex without serious consequences. As she uncovers more about the true intentions of the Princess Ballot, she realises just how dangerous and sinister the world of the royals is. And things only get more complicated when 'The Society' start taking an interest in Arbon's newest student. There's much more going on than just a manipulative marriage arrangement, and choosing between her two princes is the least of Violet's concern... When we left book one, I honestly had no idea where Jaymin and Tate would be taking things in book two - things were only just heating up and I honestly could not have predicted everything that unfolded in this installment. I was hooked from page one and didn't want to the book to end, knowing I'd have to wait for the final book, which is going to be difficult with how Playboy Princes ended - like seriously, I need book three right now! SO much unfolded and was revealed in this book and I couldn't put it down. I loved learning more about these characters and the world in which they live, and that everything really isn't all it seemed to be during Princess Ballot. I adored the dynamic of the five friends, especially because you could feel how much it had strengthened as the story went on. And don't even get me started on the romance - I was a strong supporter of whatever was happening between Violet and Rafe in book one, but now I'm holding out hope that she's going to pick both Rafe and Jordan in the end. I am here for it. And I may lowkey riot if the three of them aren't endgame (okay, not really, but still). Is it too soon to say that this is definitely one of my favourite trilogies? At this point I don't even need to read book three to know that - I've loved these first two books and can't wait to see how Jaymin and Tate finish this story! If you're a new adult romance fan who's into something a bit darker and with a side of dystopia, then this is definitely the book and series for you. You'll no doubt be hooked from the get-go and hoping that the story doesn't end. Bring on Poison Throne in hopefully the not-too-distant future! |
