Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Can you believe Christmas is essentially here!?! I'm writing this at the beginning of December and even as I'm writing this I can't believe how close Christmas is, let alone just a few days out when you're reading this! Since we are just two days out from Christmas, I thought it the best time to bring you part two of my retrospective 'what I got for Christmas', which I started last year. I had SO much fun last year going back through old photos and video footage to create that post, and I'm still SO happy with how it all turned out. So let's continue on, and take it all the way back to 2006! Now I will admit, finding photos that actually showcased the gifting portion of Christmas was a little difficult. As I got older, my mum wasn't necessarily taking the same types of photos of me like she did when I was younger. In fact, my mum is just happy to get people shots to record who was at Christmas, so Christmas hauls have become few and far between. On top of that, my home movie footage also stops in 2008 as my grandparents stopped recording things, and even then the last Christmas I have footage of is 2003. I definitely feel like I need to get back into documenting Christmas like my parents and grandparents did when I was a child, because I really enjoyed looking back on that for last year's post, and I'd love to be able to look back at Christmas 2019 and not only see what we did for Christmas, but also the gifts I received. So, let's see how well I do with this trip down memory lane! Hello 2006! This is the year that gave me one of my favourite Christmas photos - me showing the camera a Bratz Miuchiz, which I think from memory I begged my mum for because the TV ads looked awesome. I've aptly titled this photo 'When mum keeps asking you what you got for Christmas despite being the one who bought it all.' I was definitely in a Bratz phase because I also got one of the dolls (Yasmin or Chloe I think). And I think at some point over the previous few years, the children's keyboard I got died, so I received another one this year. I'll admit, it wasn't as good of quality as the previous one, but I still managed to make some ungodly sounds on it, again probably to my parent's regret. The coolest gift by far this year was definitely a telescope. I was getting into space at the time so my parents took advantage of that. I've not used this as much as I probably should be, or as much as my parents thought I would, but I still drag it out every now and then, especially during moon events. Other gifts included art and craft supplies. 2007 proved that begging your mum for a gift can pay off. Two of my cousins owned Nintendo DS Lites and I loved playing with it the previous school holiday, so I managed to convince mum to get me one, a bundle which included the classic Nintendogs! And twelve years later, I still bust this bad boy out every so often. Also under the tree was two games - Square by Square, a puzzle game in the same ballpark as Tetris, and Magic Joint, one of those magnetic building sets that used to be big back in the day. I still kind of have both of these, although they're in a box headed for the second-hand shop, ready for someone else to enjoy them. I have absolutely no idea what I was gifted in 2008. Literally none. The photos my mum took show zero reference of opened gifts. I could have been given the coolest thing ever but I can't share that with you because I have no recollection whatsoever. Which is a shame and a reason why I totally want to record things better. In 2009, I got probably one of my favourite gifts ever and that was the completion of my Charmed DVD/Magazine collection. My mum had subscribed me to this collection and there must have been a point where I wasn't receiving it, so by the time Christmas rolled around, mum had a whole box with the final chunk of the collection. I treasure this collection so much! Having completed by second year in high school, stationary also started becoming part of my Christmas haul, plus something I totally forgot about - a Dolly Diary! Mum also added to my collection by getting me another Russian Nesting Doll - I think I got one for every birthday and/or Christmas for like three years. I definitely got the CUTEST gift in 2010 - a puppy! Obviously, it's not recommended to get pets for Christmas, but it had been three years since my previous dog had died, so my parents had always been on the look for another fur baby. I technically got Luna a month before Christmas, but mum made sure I knew she was also a Christmas gift by wrapping a plushie dog for under the tree. A close second to a new addition to the family was a slushie maker, which I definitely didn't and don't use as much as I should be. Plus I remember asking for a one-metre block of Toblerone, which disappointed me by not actually a single length the chocolate. My DVD collection grew a LOT this year with the addition of The OC, Grey's Anatomy, Misfits, Glee and Bran Nue Dae - absolute classics if I do say so myself. It was also another year of getting a diary, but this year I leveled up from a Dolly Diary to a Girlfriend Diary - did anyone else feel like Girlfriend was a slight step up from Dolly? With Deathly Hallows Part 2 having hit theatres earlier in the year (*sob*), I got a film poster, which still has pride of place on my wall. And no Christmas is complete, no matter how old you are, without clothes and jewellery. And let's be real, the older you get, the mores excited you get for these types of gifts! Whoops, here we are at another year where I have no idea what what gifted. So please enjoy this picture of my dog Holly (sadly Luna was bitten by a snake not even a year after I got her, and my parents rescued this baby from the pound about two months before Christmas 2012) enjoying her Christmas present. The only gift I know I did get this year was a nativity scene. I'm not religious, but I do love decorating for Christmas and really wanted a better nativity scene that included the stable. Hello 2013! This year was all about DVDs - Glee, McLeod's Daughters, Kath & Kimderella and more! Plus I was super excited to receive the Neighbours 20th Anniversary Board Game (which was actually in 2005, but I had really gotten into the show more at this point). I don't even think I've played the game - it was moreso for collectors reasons than actually wanting to play. Don't be mistaken by the use of my dog again - there just weren't many good photos to actually share online for 2014, so you'll have to do with Holly sniffing her way through the wrapping paper looking for more gifts to unwrap. 2014 was such a weird mix of gifts if I'm being completely honest. The first was a tea box as I was really getting into tea and all the different flavours, so I asked mum to get me a nice box to store them all in. It's such a beautiful box and is filled with delicious teas. As we were shopping for gifts for others, my mum picked out some really cute magazine baskets, so I naturally told her to get me one as well (it had London on it, of course I was going to want it!). And a fun gift that my parents got me was a clock in the shape of an old phone and looking as though it was from Kensington Station. Oh and a hair dryer, which I think I used like five times, because air drying is honestly the way to go! Here we come to another year of having no idea what I received for Christmas. Which is crazy since it's only FOUR years ago. The only thing I know for certain is a Meerkat statue from my parents. Meerkats are cute AF and I'm pretty sure I had mentioned I wanted one for Christmas. Obviously, I can't have a real Meerkat, so this was a pretty good substitute. The other gift I remember from this year wasn't even mine, and that was a large metal garden sculpture of an alligator. My dad bought it for my mum and I had to wrap it - the size and odd shape made it difficult and a few swear words were definitely thrown around as I attempted to wrap it! Another year I have literally zero idea about is 2016, which you'd think I'd have more photos of or more recollection of, but nope. So enjoy another photo of my dog Holly unwrapping her present, which she had previously unwrapped twice during the month, because clearly she as eager to play with her gifts! Hallelujah for posting on social media! Having created Just Me, Victoria in 2017, of course I would post a 'What I Got for Christmas' video, as well as just posting on my socials. This was a very Potter-y Christmas, having received Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit, playing cards, Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition, and a 2018 Harry Potter Calendar. On top of that was also some Zoella Beauty products and DB Cosmetics makeup (you can bet I covered my face in that holographic highlighter for family Christmas!). Plus I got an awesome microwave brownie mug, complete with mix. This was also the year my mum won a monster Christmas raffle run by the local nursing home. The prize consisted of a garden trolley packed with food and gadgets, so it was a pretty damn good Christmas with lots of bonuses! And finally we reach Christmas last year, 2018. It's crazy to think this was 12 months ago - where on earth has the time gone? Most of the gifts I received this year were ones I picked out myself, but there were a few fun surprises. It's common knowledge in my extended family that Harry Potter stuff is usually a good bet, so my Secret Santa gifted me Harry Potter Cludeo and a Harry Potter Mug. That added to the items mum had already bought me, which included a Harry Potter Puzzle and a Harry Potter Colour-Changing Glass, which I used so much during the holiday period. An item I purchased myself but that I gave my mum to give back to me was the Are You Being Served? Box Set, which we then proceeded to binge from Boxing Day. And of course, there were some more DB Cosmetics products this year as well - honestly if you buy me books, makeup or Harry Potter stuff, you're sorted. This was once again super fun to take a trip down memory lane, although I do have to be honest, writing my first post was a little more enjoyable, simply because it was a lot more successful and a lot more nostalgic.
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas filled lots of love, laughter and happiness! Happy Holidays! Victoria :) |
