AUTHOR: Emma Chase GENRE: NA Romance PAGES: 276 RELEASED: 18 October 2016 SERIES: Royally #1 SYNOPSIS: Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you. Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn't bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face. Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants. Dating a prince isn't what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be. There's a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they've traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven't chopped anyone's head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner. But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it. Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King... or the man who gets to love Olivia forever. A swoony & gorgeous Prince? Check. A Summer romance? Check. Sounds like the makings of a must-read royal romance! Olivia Hammond has struggled to keep her family’s cafe and pie shop afloat, but works hard to keep her mother’s memory alive. So when a ridiculously handsome, and drunk, stranger offers her $10,000 for a night in bed with him, she very nearly considers taking him up on the offer before shoving pie in his face. Turns out that man is Prince Nicholas of Wessco, who finds it refreshing to not have someone recognise him and already have preconceptions about him. To Olivia, he’s just Nicholas, not the future King of Wessco. After apologising for his indecent proposal, the pair start covertly dating, enjoying that fact the press hasn’t picked up on their relationship. But being royal means having expectations to meet – like announcing who he’s going to marry at the end of Summer, in just five months. Olivia and Nicholas agree on a summer romance, before he must fulfil his duties as the Crown Prince, but what neither of them consider is how fast and hard they’ll fall in those five months, or just how ruthless the world of the royal family is for a commoner like Olivia. This was a reread for me, but apparently I never reviewed it four years ago, which is honestly a crime because this book deserves all the praises sung about it! I’m a sucker for a royal romance, and Emma delivered the perfect mix of swoon, spice and royal angst with Nicholas and Olivia. It’s a fairy tale (and dream) as old as time – a commoner bumping into the Prince, falling in love and becoming the Princess she’s always dreamed about. But here, Olivia isn’t interested in becoming a Princess, so we get to see how the pair navigates a relationship with Nicholas torn between his duty and his heart. Both characters were a joy to read about, and I loved getting to learn about other characters through their sometimes differing perspectives – it served as a great introduction for the rest of the series. I also really enjoyed getting to learn about Wessco and the royal family, which obviously takes lots of inspiration from current royal families, which I appreciated a lot as a monarchy fan. If only Wessco was real because I’d be jumping on a plain ASAP to have my own royal fairytale romance. Romance and royal romance fans definitely need to jump on this book, and series! I’ve literally binged the first three books (and one short story) in the span of five days, so that’s a pretty good indication that you need to add this to your TBR yesterday! Royally Marooned PAGES: 6 RELEASED: 30 June 2019 ROYALLY: Royally #1.5 SYNOPSIS: A sweet, swoony, short-story for Prince Nicholas & Olivia from Royally Screwed!! Royally Marooned takes place after the epilogue of Royally Screwed. Due to this short story being so short, I’m including the review here, as opposed to writing an entire new blog post. This free short story, available on Emma’s website, follows Nicholas and Olivia during their honeymoon, and the difficulties of trying to enjoy their time together seeing the world while being in the spotlight. After a conversation with the Queen, Nicholas manages to turn their honeymoon around and make it perfect like he had dreamed. Although I binged this with the rest of the books in this series, I can see how fun it would have been for fans who read the books when they first came out, getting to revisit our OG royal couple. While it’s not a necessary read that progresses the series, it’s a fun little glimpse into a moment in their lives. If only it was longer... |
