Dark, broody, and sexy? You got it. Need to laugh? I’m your guy. Desperate for something to put you in the mood? You’ve come to the right place, kitten. Every morning when my library opens, there’s a line around the block, the ladies flocking to me in need of their next book boyfriend. I’m that dude. The one who knows his way around the romance section. And if you think that hasn’t gotten me plenty of action over the years, you’d be wrong. But I made a slight miscalculation at work, and now my reputation has my job in danger. If I can’t prove to my boss that I’m more than a playboy who recommends romance in the hopes of getting some hanky panky in the stacks, I’m headed for the unemployment line. Enter Parker Elliott. She rocks a mean guitar, she has no idea how sexy she is, and she’s in need of a temporary fake boyfriend. Best of all? She doesn’t have a library card. I couldn’t have found a better fake fiancée if I’d written her myself. I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own A hot librarian who loves romance gets involved in a fake engagement? Sign me up yesterday!
Parker is dreading going to her high school reunion, not least because her boss is making her go to try a score a business deal with someone she’d rather not see again. She hated her time in high school and is determined to knock the socks off her former classmates. Enter a bachelor auction and Tarzan aka Mr. Romance aka Knox. He’s the perfect guy to pretend to be her boyfriend for her reunion. But, as it turns out, Parker and Knox already have a history, and in Parker, Knox sees a challenge to give her confidence and show her that she’s an amazing woman, even when she doesn’t always see that for herself. They agree to an arrangement that benefits them both – Parker gets a date, Knox gets some marketing help with his blog, and they both get amazing sex. Both have a clear picture of what their future holds, and their plans don’t align with one another, but as they continue to fake a relationship, it’s soon clear that their original plans might need altering. Okay firstly, where are all the hot guys who love romance books? Because hi, hello, I love romance books too, let’s go for drinks or a date in a library, my phone number is 04- ... Okay, yes, back to the book. As much as I enjoyed Chase and Ambrosia in the first book, I think Parker and Knox just pipped them at the post. Their chemistry oozed off the page and I found this book so much easier to get into compared to the first book. Pippa definitely toned down the hyperbole in this installment and the writing just seemed to flow so much better. Faking dating is probably one of my favourite tropes, particularly between people who have a bit of history together, so Parker and Knox’s relationship was certainly a fun one to follow. Not to mention, just like in book one, it served up a nice side of steaminess. If, like me, you can’t go past a fake relationship, this is definitely a book to keep on your radar. And I guarantee you’ll be left itching for more and discovering everyone else’s stories. |
