Hannah Wells is one of the few people in her ethics class to have actually passed the midterms with flying colours. When hockey captain Garrett Graham, who failed and now risks being benched, sees that Hannah got an A, he’s determined to get her to tutor him so he can pass the retake. Between classes, preparing for the upcoming Winter Showcase, and her job, Hannah doesn’t really have the time to help Garrett. That’s until he dangles an offer in front of her that she can’t resist - he’ll pretend to be her date to an upcoming party in order to make Justin Kohl, the guy she’s crushing on, jealous enough to show more interest in her. It’s a deal she can’t turn down, so they embark on a week of tutoring before the big party. The tutoring comes a goes, but soon Garrett has embedded himself in Hannah’s life, and a wild turn of events leads to them hooking up. Both of them have a tonne of baggage to sort through that could either make or break them as a couple. Have I said that I LOVE college sports romances? Because I LOVE college sports romances! Give me a swoony and spicy romance about a college hockey player any day. I’ve been eying off Elle’s books for years now, and I’m annoyed at myself for not having picked one up sooner - this book is everything I love about the college romance genre and more! Right from the start, Hannah and Garrett had undeniable chemistry, and I adored all their banter before they even got to being involved with one another. It was super fun and Elle wasn’t afraid to throw in some laugh-out-loud moments into the the middle of sex scenes - it made their connection and conversations feel realistic. On top of their friendship and romance, both Hannah and Garrett had really fun and interesting groups of friends, who I know we’ll be seeing more off as this series progresses. A few trigger warnings that readers definitely need to be aware of before diving into the book - there is talk of rape (references and flashbacks), and domestic abuse. I think Elle handled both of these topics really well within the book, and the conversations around them focused on the victim/survivor taking back control of their life and knowing that it was never their fault. With swoon and spice, and all things nice, Elle has written a romance full of heart that will have you enrolling in Briar U so you can fall in love with the captain of the hockey team |
