AUTHOR: K.K. Allen GENRE: New Adult Romance PAGES: 402 RELEASED: 1 May 2020 SERIES: BelleCurve #3 SYNOPSIS: Maggie Stevens is done feeling objectified. After spending her entire life in the spotlight and climbing the high fashion ranks as a model in LA, she’s willing to leave it all behind for a fresh start. Moving to Seattle seems like the perfect solution. A clean slate. New adventures. Endless opportunities. All is going according to plan. Until she meets the drop-dead gorgeous cooking instructor who delights in adding to her misery. Desmond Blake is determined to make a name for his culinary school—one that speaks to his hard work and undeniable passion. When his food photography hobby garners attention from an unexpected source, his dreams are finally within reach. The obstacle he never sees coming is the sharp-tongued bombshell with a distaste for all he stands for. When Desmond accidentally captures a photo of Maggie during a moment of weakness, he starts to see there’s more to the fashionista than meets the eye… Sometimes what can be seen through the lens is a skewed version of reality. A bent perspective. Manufactured, therefore losing all sense of authenticity. And sometimes all it takes is a different angle to see what’s right in front of you. I was kindly sent a copy of this book for review from Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. People can look different when you view them through the lens...
After an embarrassing exit from modelling that hindered her chances of breaking into acting, Maggie Stevens leaves her LA life behind for a fresh start in Seattle with her younger sister Monica. After three months, she’s still living on Monica’s couch and has no idea what she really wants to do, and all she’s really done is attend a cooking class with her sister. It’s the last day when she can finally get her certificate and be done with the cocky chef teaching the class. But Desmond refuses to give her the certificate, just seeing her as the model who couldn’t care less about his class. Just as they think they’ll be going their separate ways, Monica and her boyfriend Zach find a way to help Maggie with her housing and job problem, and Desmond with his assistant problem. They’ve both spent time making assumptions about one another, and now being in such close quarters is revealing who they truly are, and they aren’t that much different from one another like they believe... Okay, I’m a little annoyed with myself for not realising that this is the third book in the series and that I missed out on experiencing Chloe & Gavin and Monica & Zach’s stories first! But that’s the joy of companion novels – it’s totally fine to read out of order and go back and catch up on these character’s stories! I absolutely loved this book! I literally had no idea what to expect going into it (I hadn’t really read the synopsis or seen any other reviews), so I really enjoyed getting to see where the story went as we learnt more about these characters. I’m a big fan of alternating perspectives, so loved getting inside both Maggie and Desmond’s head – K.K. Allen’s writing style made is so easy to dip in and out of each character’s perspective. I’m sure you know by now that I’m a sucker for romances, and this one was a good one. I felt all the feels and loved spending time with Maggie and Desmond and watching their relationship grow, especially when they went through the more difficult moments. And even though I am yet to follow Chloe & Gavin and Monica & Zach’s stories, I really enjoyed seeing their moments dotted throughout this story. I’m so excited to go back and read these two books as well as devouring more of K.K. Allen’s work! Romance lovers are going to enjoy this read and the journey we go on with these characters – the highs and the lows. Get your hands on this newbie and devour it in an afternoon! |
