AUTHOR: Rebecca Jenshak GENRE: NA Sports Romance PAGES: 345 RELEASED: 26 October 2021 SERIES: Campus Nights #4 SYNOPSIS: Johnny Maverick is a lot of things. Great hockey player. Loyal friend. Rule breaker. Always up for a good time. And now, he’s my new roommate. It’s only for a few weeks while I intern for the Wildcats—his new NHL team. And there are some pros to living with my hot and ridiculous friend (or is that ridiculously hot?). He’s fun and unexpectedly sweet, and he reminds me not to take myself too seriously. I had no intention of breaking the one rule given to me on my first day on the job: no sleeping with the players. And if I had, I never dreamed that player would be Johnny Maverick. This book was kindly sent to me from Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. One wild summer adventure is all they signed up for... but he’s wanted her forever, and she’s not far from realising the same...
Summer is here and Dakota is struggling to secure an internship – she’s been turned down from everywhere she’s applied, so it looks like her summer will be spent working in Valley U’s Hall of Fame. Determined to help his friend, Johnny Maverick pulls some strings and helps her get an internship with the Minnesota Wildcats, the team he’s quit college for to join in the NHL. What Dakota doesn’t realise is just how much string pulling Maverick has done in order to get her to Minnesota. She’s excited for what the next eight weeks holds and the opportunities this internship could open up for her. And the nice bonus is that she gets to spend an extra eight weeks with Maverick before she returns to college for another year and he’s jetting off around the country for matches. The pair have been close for the past two years, often jokingly flirting with one another. But what Dakota doesn’t realise is that Maverick has rarely been joking when he’s flirted with her. Their chemistry is undeniable, but she’s only in town for the summer, and her internship clearly states that she can’t have a relationship with a player. Maverick has been such an interesting character in the previous three Campus Nights books, so I was so excited to finally get inside his head and learn more about him. Not only that, but the chemistry between him and Dakota has been evident since they were first introduced, so the entire series has been building to finally getting to see their relationship unfold. While it was sad that this book didn’t take place at Valley U like the previous books, it was actually so great to be introduced to a new location and cast of characters, whom we’ll get to follow in Rebecca’s Wildcats series. Like the previous instalments, this book was oozing sexual tension, flirty banter, and wild adventures. One of the things I love about these books, aside from the romance, is the fun friendships that Rebecca writes, and even with a new set of characters it was still so fun just hanging out with these friend groups – I feel like Rebecca could literally write a book about friend group with zero romance and it would still be a super enjoyable read. For those who’ve read the series that started it all for the world of Valley U, Smart Jocks, you will be pleasantly surprised with a cameo from a former character. I love the world Rebecca has created and how she so effortlessly gives us glimpses of where previous leading characters are now. It’s only a small thing, but it really immerses you in the world and reminds you how all these books are connected. If you’re a sports romance lover, like me, the Campus Nights series is one on you NEED to add to your TBR, preferably somewhere near the top. It’s full of swoony hockey players, a fun girl gang, and countless laughs that’ll have you wanting to reread the books as soon as you finish them. |
