Happy Hump Day Lovelies!
Have you recovered from Halloween over the weekend? I hope however you spent the day it was fun and filled with a little spooky magic. Now that we’re in November, the end of the year is hurtling towards us – 2022 is literally right around the corner, and that’s lowkey scary, scarier that Halloween has ever been! So before we dive into the Christmas and Holiday content (which I’m VERY excited about, by the way), let’s talk about podcasts! If you know me, you’ll know I’m a big podcast fan and have way too many episodes to catch up on. Whether you’re a podcast newbie or subscribed to way too many yourself, you can honestly never have too many subscriptions in your rotation. So here’s 10 you definitely need to be listening to if you aren’t already! Best Served Cold
GENRE: True Crime
HOSTS: Tama J & Laura Elise PREMIERED: 10 May 2020 EPISODES: 61 Real-life partner’s in crime Tama J and Laura Elise delve into the world of true crime in a way that is not healthy and not at all creepy. Join the duo in Bored Millennial’s new true-crime series, ‘Best Served Cold’. Together they’ll discuss all things underworld; serial killers, cults, conspiracy theories, and good ole fashioned murder. This is only a newbie for me, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Tama & Laura as they share some interesting true crime stories. In each episode, they both present a story each, so you get double the amount of true crime. The duo are both great storytellers and conversationalists, and even when talking about dark and twisty crime stories, they manage to keep things as light-hearted as possible. What’s more, they’re an Aussie duo, so many of the cases covered are Australian, which makes this Aussie super happy. HOST: Bailey Sarian PREMIERED: 2 June 2021 EPISODES: 16 Bailey Sarian, a professional makeup artist & true crime connoisseur, is taking her expertise from her popular YouTube series, Murder, Mystery & Makeup, and expanding into the podcast world with Dark History! Each week, she will explore the chilling stories of the dark past of from US and World Hisotyr that they don’t teach you in school! I’ve LOVED Bailey’s Murder, Mystery & Makeup series on YouTube, so was very excited when she first announced this podcast. While she shares true crime stories in her YouTube series, this one sees her sharing intriguing stories from throughout history, and in particular the stories you just never really, but probably should have, learnt in history class. If you’re familiar with Bailey’s work already, you’ll definitely enjoy following her down the rabbit hole into history, but even if you haven’t heard of Bailey before, you’ll definitely enjoy her storytelling and narration. Even when she’s talking about dark moments from history, she manages to keep the mood on the light-hearted side things. I’ve been a fan of Rhett & Link and Good Mythical Morning for a long time now, and some of my favourite episodes over the years have been the ones where the duo just have a chat and share the goings on in their lives. Originally Ear Biscuits was a way for the Mythical duo to interview fellow internet creators and delve deep into their lives, but these days the show has morphed into just Rhett and Link talking about anything and everything – as the tagline goes, it’s two life-long friends talking about life for a long time. From talking about the growth of their business, to sharing vacation happenings, and moments in their lives, it’s great to hang out with them for anywhere between an hour and two hours. As a fan of history, this has been such a great podcast to subscribe to. So many areas and periods of history are covered, although there is definitely a heavy lean towards British and European history given that it’s a UK-based podcast. Every episode sees a historian or author talking about the topic of the day, giving an overview and insight into that moment or personality in history. This is definitely my favourite true crime podcast (which is a big thing to say since I follow so many and have a few go-tos), and that’s mainly down to Ash & Alaina being such fun hosts. Despite the sad nature of the topics covered, the duo manage to keep things as upbeat as possible. This is actually such a great podcast to listen to if you’re new to the true crime genre. When it comes to YouTube, my loyalties lie with the golden age of British YouTubers, Alfie Deyes being one of them. In this super fun podcast, Alfie and his special guests go through anonymous confessions and share their thoughts, disbeliefs and advice. The confessions are entertaining enough, but they’re made even more hilarious and cringe by the dissection of the guests involved. People are doing and confessing absolutely outrageous stuff, and you’re going to want to hear all about it.
