AUTHOR: Sarah J. Maas GENRE: New Adult Fantasy PAGES: 624 RELEASED: 3 May 2016 SERIES: A Court Of Mist And Fury #2 SYNOPSIS: Feyre is immortal. After rescuing her lover Tamlin from a wicked Faerie Queen, she returns to the Spring Court possessing the powers of the High Fae. But Feyre cannot forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people - nor the bargain she made with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre is drawn ever deeper into Rhysand's dark web of politics and passion, war is looming and an evil far greater than any queen threatens to destroy everything Feyre has fought for. She must confront her past, embrace her gifts and decide her fate. She must surrender her heart to heal a world torn in two. The first book was great, but this second installment was FANTASTIC! Truly worthy of all the hype it receives.
Feyre and Tamlin return to the Spring Court after Under The Mountain, but Feyre's life has changed drastically. Not only is she now immortal, but she is plagued by the memories of what she had to endure at the hands of Amarantha. While everyone at the Spring Court is enjoying their curse-free existence, Feyre is wasting away, with everyone seemingly ignoring her daily struggles. It's only when Rhysand comes to collect on the bargain he and Feyre made does she realise that she's suffocating at the Spring Court. When Tamlin fails to see she's in desperate need of help, Feyre finds sanctuary with Rhysand in the Night Court and his secret paradise city of Velaris. Across the sea, Hybern is threatening a war and invasion, with consequences much greater than those of Amarantha's - Amarantha was just child's play compared to what lays ahead. Together, Feyre and Rhysand, along with his inner circle, must try to stop the King from gaining the powers to wreck havoc on Prythian and the mortal realms. Oh. My. God. Words honestly can't express how I feel about this book, but here it goes: They say that the second book in a series always falls flat, but ACOMAF is SOOOO much better than the first book! There's just so much more in this book and story, from amazing world building, the introduction of more great characters, fantastic character developments, and a romance that had a much better connection than the first. Everything about this book was a major improvement on ACOTAR and just really shows how Sarah's writing has improved between books. The first book was really just a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but this second book added so much more to the world and really made it its own story. An important element that I really loved seeing (which sounds weird, but hear me out) was Feyre suffering from PTSD. A lot of books where a character has endured a horrific event seem to gloss over or ignore the long-term impact it has on characters, but I loved that Sarah had it be such an important part of Feyre's story. And I really liked the contrast between how Tamlin and Rhysand connected with her regarding the PTSD, and this just added to the connection that developed between Feyre and Rhysand. Do I really need to discuss Feyre and Rhysand? I LOVE THEM! And everything about them just worked so much more than her and Tamlin - I actually believed their connection and love for one another so much more. And while everyone points out Chapter 55, can we take a minute to appreciate Chapter 54 and Rhysand's monologue, because that was beautiful. And we get to see and learn more about Prythian, which was fantastic. Plus, Sarah's descriptions of Velaris have me wanting to pack my bag and move there - who wouldn't want to live there! It was great to be introduced to four more amazing characters, who added so much more to the story. Mor, Amren, Azriel and Cassian all have their own intriguing backgrounds, and it was great to learn about them along the way. Together with Rhysand (and Feyre in the latter part of the book), they make such a great group of characters. Can I please be part of the inner circle? I have nothing but praise for this book and can see why everyone loves it so much. It's such a step up from the first book to the point where when I come to rereading this series, I might just skip over the first book (or possibly just read from the Under the Mountain stuff). I loved this book so much and could not get enough. And the ending? I'm so glad I didn't have to wait a year for the third book, because I needed to see what happened asap! Seriously, go and pick up this book right now! If you had some issues with the first, trust me when I say that this book will redeem the series for you. All the praise and hype surrounding this book is well deserved and you won't be disappointed with this second book! |
