Happy New Year Booklovers! 2023 has come to an end which means it’s time to share ALL the year-in-reviews and wrap-ups - we’ve had Spotify Wrapped, My Year On YouTube, and Twitch Recap, but I’ve saved the best until last. That’s right, it’s time for my 2023 reading wrap up with the help of Perpetual Page Turner’s ‘End Of Year Book Survey’! I’ve been doing this survey every year since I started blogging, and I love taking a look back at everything I’ve read over the last twelve months, seeing the statistics, and seeing how I reflect on those books now. If you haven’t checked out Jamie’s blog, make sure you do because she shares so much fabulous bookish content! After a couple of hit and miss years, I’m excited to say that I DID complete my reading goal, and actually stayed on track the entire year - here’s hoping that I can absolutely smash my goal in 2024, but before we jump ahead a whole year, let’s wrap up 2023! reading statsBooks Read: 57 Rereads: 0 Series Started: 14 Series Finished: 6 Pages Read: 18,555 pages Average Rating: 4.19 stars Most-Read Genre: Romance best in books1. Best book you read in 2023? I read SO many amazing books in 2023 that it is actually super hard to narrow down which was best read(s). So let me just toss a dart at the books I read (and haven’t mentioned elsewhere in this post) and choose: 2. Book you were excited about and thought you were going to love more but didn’t? My lowest rated book this year was Sizzle Reel by Carlyn Greenwald, which I gave 3 stars to. The book sounded like it would be right up my alley, but I really struggled throughout with most aspects of the book. There was SO much potential with the story and characters, but everything fell flat rather quickly. Carlyn’s writing style seemed to miss the mark on several occasions, and some scenes felt very clunky. The main character was also super one-dimensional and should have had way more character development than she had Despite all that, I still want to give Carlyn a chance since this was her debut. A follow-up - Director’s Cut - is hitting shelves in June, so it’ll be interesting to see where she takes those characters. 3. Best: 4. Favourite new author you discovered in 2023? I actually read a lot of new-to-me authors over the last 12 months - thirty-one to be exact - so it’s hard to narrow down who my one favourite is. I ADORED Lana Ferguson, Jodi McAlister and Elle Kennedy, just to name a few (because I could totally list them all!). 5. Book you read in 2023 that you would be MOST likely to re-read in 2024? I’ve tried to make it a point not to re-read many books, because if I did, all I’d do is re-read my faves and then not read all the new books on my TBR! Most of the books I read last year would definitely be re-reads for me. 6. Favourite cover of a book you read in 2023? 7. Shortest & longest: 8. OTP of the year? Ooh this is a tough one - I fell in love with most of the couples I read in 2023! I think my ultimate OTP has to be the Price Family - Rachel, Ilmari, Jake & Caleb - from Pucking Around. 9. Favourite non-romantic relationship of the year? There has bee a lot of really great friendship and squads in the books I’ve read, but I do have a particular soft spot for the Off-Campus boys - Garrett, Logan, Dean, and Tucker! 10. Favourite book you read in 2023 from an author you’ve read previously? With SO many new-to-me authors, there wasn’t much room for too many previously read authors… So it’s a toss-up between Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date by Ashley Herring Blake and Home To Echidna Lane by Eva Scott! 11. Best 2023 debut you read? Going through my read list, there aren’t actually too many 2023 debuts on the list… but the best 2023 debut is hands-down The Nanny by Lana Ferguson! Lana absolutely SLAYED with this one, and if I didn’t know it was a debut, I would expect to have followed it up by binging all her previous releases! blogging & bookish life1. Best bookish event that you participated in? I didn’t actually attend any bookish events, although I did attend an event back in May where Julie Cross was one of the keynote speakers. Julie is an amazing and funny motivational speaker, and after her address I just had to pick up her book Just Who Does She Think She Is?. 2. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of the year? My goal for 2023 was to read 52 - one book a week - and as you can see above, I smashed it! And it was all thanks to devouring ELEVEN books in December, six of which were festive novellas. And not only did I complete the goal, I was also on-track or ahead for pretty much the entire year, which is always a nice feeling when you go though periods of reading slightly less. looking ahead1. One book you didn’t get to in 2023 but will be your #1 priority in 2024? A new release from 2023 that I was kindly sent for review is Love And Other Scores by Abra Pressler, which I did start when it arrived in November, but ended up reading a bunch of Christmas books in December instead. This is one that I’m currently reading and thoroughly enjoying, so keep your eyes peeled! 2. Book you are most anticipating for 2024? There are SO many books I’m excited for this year, one of which I’ve already read, so the next top three that I’m keen to get my hands on are: 5. A 2024 release you’ve already read & recommend to everyone? I ended 2023 by reading one of my most anticipated 2024 releases - Not Here To Make Friends by Jodi McAlister - which actually comes out today! It was such a fabulous way to round-out my reading year and everyone NEEDS to go out an read this book and series! 6. What are your reading goals for 2024? And that’s a wrap on 2023!
I am SO happy with all the books I read in 2023, and it gives me high hopes that 2024 is going to be as good, if not better! And by the looks of the new year releases alone, I just know there’s some fabulous books in my future! Let me know some of your favourite books from 2023, and which books you’re most looking forward to reading this year! Now, time to get back to smashing my 2024 reading goal… Happy reading!
