Hey Everyone! Last April, I made a post talking about some of the songs on my Nostalgia playlist. As I said then, I have over over 170 songs - over 250 now actually - and was only able to able to focus on twelve songs during that post. So of course, I couldn't resist coming back to the topic and sharing ten more of my favourites and the stories and memories connected to them! Starting off with the song that prompted me to write a part two, and that's 'Nasty Girl' by Nitty. For some reason, this song just randomly popped into my head out of nowhere one morning - I hadn't thought about or heard it in years and Nitty was suddenly in my head singing. This is so not a song I should have been listening to or singing along with as a pre-teen. When it got stuck in my head, I actually looked up the lyrics and only then realised just how inappropriate it was when I first heard it. I don't even know how I came across it, but it was a bloody catchy song with a chorus taken from 'Sugar, Sugar'. When I was in primary school, I went through a nightmare stage (it was just after Claire was killed on McLeod's Daughter). and to help me get to sleep at night, I would listen to music (which is probably why I now love to listen to podcasts to fall asleep). One album I played to death was Barbie Slumber Party: Vol. 2, which was a compilation of a whole bunch of popular pop songs from the early 2000s. One of the songs was A1's Caught In The Middle. I don't know why this is one of the tracks to stand out, but it is, and somehow I still know all the lyrics. And speaking of this album, another song that I remember so vividly is Gotta Get Thru This by Daniel Bedingfield. They are both embedded into my subconscious and are peak early 2000s music and I love it! A song that is such an iconic part of my childhood and still such a bop is Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader, which I just learnt is a cover - King Harvest is the original artist. This I remember so vividly because it used to be on the radio every single morning when I was getting ready for school, hence it being such an iconic part of my childhood. It had, and still has, a catchy beat and although I did eventually get annoyed that it as always on the radio, I did really enjoy. Even today I still love listening to and singing along with this song. Continuing with childhood nostalgia, the next two songs are from way back when I was in year 6 (12 freaking years ago) and that's Lollipop and Happy Ending by Mika. Apart from these being two awesome songs - Lollipop is such a catchy tune - both were used in my primary school talent quest by two guys in my class. They performed some dance to both songs (I don't even know what) and it was the first time I'd ever heard them. Now, whenever I hear these songs, I remember snippets from this dance these guys did (and I lowkey think they guys should have won the talent quest haha). That and I just bloody love singing along to both of them! One of the most iconic songs in Australia, still to this day, is Untouched by The Veronicas, and I totally jammed out to this as a pre-teen. There's a reason why this song is still such a banger - hello, have you heard those strings at the beginning! I will totally admit that that I sung along, or lipsync'd along, as if I'd had my heartbroken by some boy or ignored by my crush - 12/13 year-old-me was so freaking dramatic. Every time I hear this song I 100% remember that cringe pre-teen time, but love it all the same. Speaking of absolute bangers, I still cant go past So Good by the Bratz Rock Angelz. I got this single for one of my birthdays and it was so freaking amazing. Like most kids, I loved playing with my Barbie and Bratz dolls, so of course my mum bought me Bratz-themed things (did anyone else have a Bratz Miuchiz?). If I'm being honest, I've never seen any of the Bratz films (though I totally would watch them now), but I still love this song. It's such a bop and I feel like that, because it's a Bratz song, it's totally underrated and under appreciated, so if you've not heard it before, you're totally missing out! Probably just a generally nostalgic song for anyone who listens to it is Forever Young by Youth Group. There's just something super nostalgic about the song, even if you've only just heard it for the time. But, one of the reasons it does mean so much to me was that I used it as part of the soundtrack of a home movies creation. Called 18 Years of Memories, it documented all the photos and videos taken at my Nan & Pop's farm - it was an awesome place that my cousin's loved spending time at when we were growing up and we were so sad to say goodbye when they moved back in 2006. I used this song in part of the photo montage, and I can't help but connect this song to those memories, even though I didn't technically listen to this song during that time. Because I may as well stick to my primary school era, the next song is Wish You Well by Bernard Fanning. Back in Year 6, we had a student teacher for a term or two, and she was awesome. During her final few weeks, she taught us a little routine to this song to perform at one of the end-of-term assemblies. I don't think at the time she told us she would be leaving (she could have and I totally wasn't paying attention), but this song was kind of part of her farewell notice to the rest of the students. I still kinda remember the routine too, but please don't ask me to show you... Finally, a iconic song in the form of Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne. Everyone knows this song, and you can't not sing and dance along to this banger. There was a time, however, when I didn't know this song. My cousins and I were having a little karaoke session and my cousin put this song on for me and I had no idea what it was and he was lowkey shocked. But thanks to it being such a catchy song and that it features on Sing Star, I soon had the lyrics downpat. Plus, how iconic is the music video? And that's still only scratching the surface! There are just so many amazing bops out there that have some memory, moment or feeling attached to them. Which means I'll not doubt be back with another post (probably in another year) sharing even more songs. In the meantime, check out my Nostalgia playlist on Spotify.
